Connecting Win10 to exisiting network on Win2000 PC via Router

Can't remember how I did this and can only find help online for wireless. I have to only use wired through the router. Probably something simple and obvious... can someone point me in the right direction?
Both are connected to Netgear router and access internet OK.
In Win2000 PC, in windows explorer clicking on Network shows the current network and one other Win2000 computer, but no new Win10 computer.
On Win10 PC, network shows 'residential gateway' and Netgear with internet access but no other computers.
One of my buddies said just plug both into the router and the will self-connect. Not on this system.
