Has anyone experimented, or knows someone who's experimented, with
running a Mac OS X on hardware that's not proprietary to Apple,
specifically an Intel or AMD-based multi-core machine?

I'm doing it right now, take a look at
http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

If you do it right, is indistinguishable from a real mac, but you need
the right hardware.
