I use both on same system and driver compatible issues with both, Ubuntu
9.04 boots on this PC in 2 mins whereas Vista Boots in under 1 min, some
commerical software doesnt have direct equilvent as Windows OS, for
example Autocad that I use day in day out, have looked for free software
that does the same and although CAD packages are available for Ubuntu
they dont have the same power / functions as ACAD. Also there is no
suitable Windows Development packages available on Ubuntu.

Is hot air better than cold air? I use both and both are unique.
Is a Desoto better than an Edsel?
don't start THAT war, again!
anyway, anyone with an ounce of sense knows the Hudson beat'em both,
especially in boot speed and eye-candy! ;-)

Apples and oranges, my friend. Personally, I've been a *nix user for
quite a while now, so I use Linux (Arch, for the curious) for day to
day stuff as well as more serious things like work and software
development. I boot into Windows when I want to play games. I'd image
that's not too uncommon.

Thank you for helping us help you help us all.
In general, any Linux distro is much, much, much.....much better than any
Windows version, no matter what Microsoft salesmen say. I have used Fedora
and now I'm using KUbuntu. I like much more Kubuntu, but that is a question
of likes. Once you get used to your Linux distro, you won't regret your
choice. Well, I still miss Windows games, but, you can't get it all.

That really isn't much of an argument.. it's much much better because..
you like it?
Now I run numerous flavors at work as well as home - I prefer Unix/BSD
simply for the openness and ease of understanding how the underlying
system works / ease of tweaking core settings easily and transparently.
I just dislike it when people conclusively say something such as "Linux
is better" with no real reason or argument. Fan-boyism is never good :).
For the record I run the following every day at work & home:
Mac OSX Laptop
Arch Desktop
Arch Laptop
Ubuntu Server
CentOS Server

What I meant is that, differences among home-oriented linux distros are much
more smaller than between Windows and linux, and your choice will be mostly
because of details that some people will like and some won't. Some people
like Ubuntu, some Fedora, Suse... If you aren't interested in a professional
use, you won't find technical arguments to choose one or another.
I've used KUbuntu and Fedora at home, and Windows, CentOS and Solaris at
work.
