Smart/RG modem/router - can't set it up

I bought a Smart/RG modem/router, model SR360n, from an eBay seller to replace my current Zyxel modem and Buffalo router (two separate devices) which I use for my internet service with Earthlink.  The device I purchased shows up in my laptop's wireless network list with the name of Fairpoint86D2.  But using the WiFi Key shown on the bottom of the device to connect, does not work.  I did a reset, but it didn't help. 
 
I then wire-connected the modem/router to my laptop, but going to 192.168.1.1 didn't connect.  Using ipconfig command I discovered that the Default Gateway is 192.168.1.254.  Going to that address opened a Cisco Control Panel login page asking for Username and Password. 
 
I tried dozens of combinations, such as admin/admin, admin/(blank), cisco/cisco, cisco/admin, admin/cisco, Administrator/(blank), administrator/(blank), root/12345, etc, etc.  So, if anyone knows the correct user/password combination for this model router, I would be most grateful for your assistance. 
 
The eBay seller says he got the device from his old ISP, Fairpoint Communications (now Consolidated Communications).  Is it possible that the device is only compatible with that ISP, in other words, is a modem provided by one ISP not necessarily interchangeable to be used with other ISP's, in this case Earthlink?  Earthlink tech support worked with me on the phone for almost an hour, but couldn't get it to work either.
 
Any pointers, ideas, suggestions will be most welcome.  TIA.
