Hating it is a bit of a reach most people just dont know or dont want to
because they are scared and lazy.

You know, I think so too.

I myself know someone who keeps saying that she would hate Linux.
In the end, she didn't even tried it out or searched for pros and cons of
the system.

It's as you already mentioned the laziness of the people and Microsofts
"well done" marketing that keeps users away from the usage of another OS.

The big problem for me was that most distributions, such as openSuse had
no codecs for mp3, and web videos.

Fortunately a few do, Mint, Ubuntu, and a few others.
