Hi,

Im looking for some information on how powerful a pc needs to be in order to
capture good quality video from a video capture card. I have a Pentium 200MMX
with 8.6GB IDE Hard Disk, 64MB EDO ram and 8MB video card. The TV capture
card is Hauppage WinTV.

Should I be expecting much from this sort of setup...? I want to be able to
create video CD`s in the long term (recorded from a camcorder etc).

I have dabbled with it all but dont seem to be getting very far.... Maybe Im
using the wrong software?

Comments from anyone who is into this type of application would be very
welcome. I would also like comments from anyone who uses MPEG video, how is
it created, I think this card can only save AVI.....

I have so many questions, but cant ask too many at once....

I have just borrowed an MPEG film from a friend. The quality is great (even
at full screen display) and it runs 70 minutes and is contained all on one
650mb CDR disc. I would like to know how I can produce this type of video CD.

Please get back to me if you can help in any way....
I look forward to your response, thanks.

John

I would say you've got more than enough system, depending on what you mean
by video. You don't really say what the problem is exactly. I edit home
videos on an overclocked non-MMX Pentium 166. (I'm running the bus at 75
MHz, so it actually clocks at about 187.5 MHz) I have 64 MB of SDRAM, 4 MB
version of Matrox Mystique w/ Rainbow Runner capture card add-on, Quantum
Fireball ST 4.3 GB as my video storage drive, Fireball SE 1.2 GB as system
drive. I can capture full screen NTSC standard (704 x 480 pixels) at 30
frames/ second, 24-bit color, and the card compresses it into MJPEG format
(Matrox proprietary). Using Media Studio Pro 5.0 to edit and output to VCR.
To me, it seems like you've got more system than I have, so it should work
fine. When you say you aren't getting very far; do you mean you don't know
where to start, or you're having other problems hardware/software related
perhaps?
