i'm tooling up an old pc with the mass of old hardware i have lying
around (AMD 400 cpu, 64meg EDO). the
best video card i have on hand is a 4meg Diamond Stealth II S220. i
dont expect blazing perfomance but,
should i get a new card (and if so, which will give the best
performance) or should i stay with the S220?

thanks

The big question is, what's the intended use for the system, do you
plan on 3D gaming with it, or do you need hardware DVD/MPEG decoding,
etc?

The present video card will be fine for 2D stuff, so long as you don't
need 32bit color in high resolutions, and the refresh rates it supports
are tolerable. I don't know the particulars about the card you have,
is it EDO memory or SRAM?

A good replacement card might be a nVidia TNT2 if the board can supply
enough current, or a Voodo3.

If it were my system, I wouldn't worry too much about the video card...
the system doesn't meet the requirements of a good gaming rig, and the
EDO memory will make the processor spend a lot of time waiting,
especially if it's a K6-2 on a board with a small L2 cache.
