I have a crummy ATX 185W P.S. I'd like to use for bench testing and D.C.
output....but since ATX power supplies turn on VIA a front panel to
mainboard switch....does anyone know which pins to short to turn on the P.S.
without using a mainboard? (The fan doesn't turn when the AC is applied). It
has the standard 20 pin main connector, and the 4 pin connector.....other
than the molex connectors for the drives.

You should dig up an old AT supply.

PS_ON, Pin 14 (green wire) can be pulled low (shorted to a ground,
black wire). You may likley need a load on the 5V rail, like a hard
drive, light bulb, etc... usually 2A minimum is spec'd but more often
than not > .5A is enough.

here's an aid:

I think that "tester" isn't supposed to be used, connected, for any
significant period of time due to how much heat it creates... just a
few minutes for testing purposes.
