Hi,

I tried upgrading an AST 486/25 from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95. I
successfully did it but now my CD ROM won't work. I've called AST and
they gave me some code to correct the problem but that didn't work.
They suggested that I purchase a new CD ROM. I did that also but
discovered that the pins on the cables and the boards don't match. The
CD ROM is manufactured by Sony. I have tried contacting them on several
occasions to no avail.

Is there any recourse for me?

Thanks for your help.

Gloria

What is the model number of the sony. Some of the old ones used a sony
interface cable that will be different from new drives. The new drive
should be and IDE interface and should be connected to the same cable as the
HDD

This is just a guess, but the CD ROM you removed probably uses the sound
card or separate card as an interface, while the new one is an IDE drive. Is
the cable/connection the same as your hard drive ribbon? If so, you will
have to set it up as a slave (unless you have an IDE 2 port).

Was I right?
