I want to get a KVM switch so that I can use one monitor with two
computers. I had a cheap box many, many years that was horrible...
produced a lot of ghosting. Do modern switches do a better job?
Several brand names come up on a quick search...
Belkin (expensive)
Linksys
IOGear
Trendnet
Startech
Hawking
Does anyone here have experience with any of the above... good or bad.
Thanks
Ralph

I've had good luck with Belkin. I use an 8-port rack mounted at work, and a
two port omnicube at home. The only problem I've ever had is booting up my
laptop (Dell CPi Pentium II 266MHz), in it's docking station. If I don't
leave it set to the laptop during the entire boot up, it freezes, starts
beeping loudly and continuosly, and needs to be turned off via power
switches.
The 8 port at work, and all of the dell servers connected to it, have no
problems with each other (boot up with it switched to them, not switched to
them, flipping through all of the servers, etc. etc.)
I've been using a Linkskey KVM-K102SK 2 port switch that I bought at
Newegg.com for $40 (sold out at the moment). I can't tell the
difference between the video when attached to the KVM or not. It has a
connector for attaching a power supply (not included) but I've never
needed it. The only complaint I've read about is that the cables are
too short but they are plenty long for me (1.2m). The only problem
I've ever had is trying to use a USB mouse with a USB/PS2 adapter,
which sometimes froze on me. I'd highly recommend it though. Seems to
be of high quality despite the low price.
They keyboard and mouse work fine at least, and it's not so blurry that it
isn't usable; just a bit annoying.
