How can I get it so Sound Recorder to play wavs from online (not
downloading, although I know it is still a technical download in the cache)
instead of Active movie. This can be done I know, this is how my system
was working before I re-installed first aid 98. Wav files still play
through Sound Recorder when stated from the HD. All "Choose the type of
program you want to run this application" box I could find for wavs are
pointing to Sound Recorder. I am using Win95a and IE 3.02. I am at a
loss. Any suggestions appreciated.

Open IE 3.02. Under VIEW, choose OPTIONS. Then choose the programs
tab. Push the FILE TYPES button. Scroll to almost the very bottom of
this list and you should see Wave Sound. Select it, then choose EDIT
and select PLAY. Then choose EDIT and change the apllication to:

C:\WINDOWS\sndrec32.exe /play /close

Assuming, of course, that your windows directory is in C drive, which
is pretty standard.

Then just choose OK to back out of each of the 4 menus you just
opened.

Good luck!

Check you have a wav file type in the list.If so then delete and re-install with
the New Type option.
Hope this helps*<:)

The question is, why? ActiveMovie is better because it will stream a file
from disk, rather than loading the whole goddamn thing into memory first.
And ActiveMovie will put itself as a control in a page properly, like it
should.

The streaming issue is only really important with big files. When making a
CD- DA track into a .mp3, I will listen to the .wav that my ripper dumps, to
check for glitches. Whilst I could convert to .mp3 first (which I do better
than real-time by a factor of more than two, which ain't bad) I don't.
Playing the track back in Sound Recorder is a bad experience. I have enough
RAM for about 7 minutes of audio. And so it puts all seven minutes into RAM,
and then plays it. Copying 60 Mb of audio is very tedious. ActiveMovie
doesn't do this -- it plays it straight from disk. But d/l a big .wav and
you might notice the difference.

Maybe because you're asking in the wrong group?
