Anyone use this keyboard and mouse? About how often do you have to replace
the batteries?

I'm not sure about this particular model ... but I have a Logitech cordless
keyboard/optical mouse combo (Cordless Freedom Optical) that I have been
using for almost a year without changing the batteries.

Granted, they are connected to a computer system I use as an entertainment
center and, therefore, are used every day, but not very heavily.

However, Logitech claims that with normal use the batteries in an optical
device (such as your mouse) will last approximately 2 months, and
non-optical devices (keyboard) will last about 6 months.

Like I said, I have been using the same batteries in my setup for well
beyond that. I certainly recommend any Logitech input devices almost without
question. I would trust whatever Logitech says about it's battery life ...
even suggest they estimate a little low.

I used to have a Logitech split keyboard (like the one in the Comfort Duo)
which broke on me eventually ... after many many hours of heavy use. On the
whole I would certainly recommend it over a Microsoft Natural keyboard in an
instant, as the first (and last) Natural keyboard I had did not last half as
long as the Logitech. I abused keyboards back then ... and now that I'm
easier on them I use $10-$15 throw-aways from Office Depot, LOL! Go figure
...

Since I don't care anything about bells and whistles on a keyboard, I never pay
more than $10 for one. The twin Circuit City cheapies I use now have great
touch and do everything I want.

Somebody should write an ode to the cheap keyboard. ;-)

Often enough to buy a good charger and rechargeable batteries. Of course I also
use the batteries in my digital camera and I do use the mouse and keyboard quite
a lot. Your mileage may vary.

I don't really care too much for the bells and whistles either ... though,
with the wireless combo I use for my entertainment system the multimedia
controls come in quite handy (the nice big volume spinner in the middle in
particular). But for a regular PC configuration a "plain-jane" $10 throw
away from Office Depot works fine for me. In fact, when I buy a keyboard I
specifically look for the ones without all the extra buttons (because they
never seem to work quite right anyway ... and, I mean, who actually needs a
"shopping" button anyway???)

When this one breaks (been going strong for almost 2 years now) I might
consider upgrading to a split keyboard as I really enjoyed them back when I
had them ... but you can rest assured it will be the plainest (and cheapest)
Logitech I can find, because I like the touch on the Logitech keyboards and
the Microsoft Natural is pure shit. I think the one I had before cost me
about $25. (compared to twice that for that M$ POS)

I have this combo, too. I bought it about a month before Logitech came
out with the cordless optical mouse that rests in a recharger stand when
not in use!!!

I use mine a lot...

True for the keyboard, false for the mouse. Invest in rechargheable
batteries for the mouse! Gaming or heavy use will run them down in just
a couple of weeks. I have 4 pairs of NiCd batteries that I whack in my
old 4 battery NiCd charger when I have two pairs ready to be recharged.

I tried that, but I kept mis-typing it. :)

I've had my logitech Cordless Navigator Duo SE for just over six months and
have changed the mouse batteries 4 times, and still using the original set
for the keyboard. I imagine the Comfort Duo would be very similar.

Unless you've already got a set of NiCad rechargeables and a decided
preference for the split keyboard design, I'd definitely be spending my
dollars on the Logitech MX Duo. Besides the fact that the MX700 mouse comes
equipped with a base station that doubles as a recharger, it is also the
best mouse available at the moment, and is decidedly better than the model
which comes with the Comfort Duo.

In which case, you'll be well served by the logitech combination. They make
uniformly excellent keyboards and mice. Just be sure to pick up a set of
rechargeable batteries...
