I use a product from Cameleon Technology, Inc called the
Heat Sentry. It consists of a 4"x2" 8-bit ISA controller
with a built-in ambient temperature sensor and four (4)
probe connectors (it also comes with one that you can
attach to the underside of your CPU). The cost is $49.95
which includes a probe (additional probes are $16.95).
You can get more information at Macrotron USA's (parent
corporation) website:

http://www.macrotronusa.com/cameleon/index.html

Works very good. I have one with 4 probes installed, one
on the underside of the CPU, one on the oc'd Millenium,
on one the Fast Ethernet card and one on the 7200 RPM SCSI
drive. Temperatures range from 82/86/95/117/108 for the
AmbientAir/CPU/Video/Ethernet/SCSI (all temps in degrees F).

hello,

how would i go about monitoring my soon to be overclocked cpu temperature?

compUSA was giving away free "cp-vue" heat monitors that replace an empty
drive bay faceplate, but they only monitor the air temp. near the
drives... _far_ away from the CPU.

Thanks alot :) this sound really cool.
do you know if it is compatible with the pentium 2? (you said the
"underside" of the cpu)

thanks,

OTOH, my dealings with them have been very professional. I've
done two separate installations and both have been successful.
I've been running the Heat Sentry in System #1 for the last 6
months and in System #2 for the last 4 months. You can set a
threshold (trigger) with the software so that the unit plays
a .wav file, launches a program (shutdown?) or sends a message
to my Pager.

Only mistake I ever made was not installing the hardware before
I installed the software (they tell you to install the hardware
first).

I found a reference to them from J Corwith's Ultimate HeatSink
Project http://www.megsinet.com/jcorwith/ultimate/index.html)
http://www.megsinet.com/jcorwith/ultimate/index.html#HTESTING

Perhaps your case is an isolated incident. I hope you get it
resolved. The product really works.

FYI, there is also a CP-VUE2 that includes a probe that attaches directly to
your CPU and sells for about $19 at Dartek (has an audible alarm ).

I don't own one ... just saw it in their catalog.

Yes, and CompUSA has these also.

Probably too late for you now, but the QDI motherboards (TX) have
thermo sensors built in. And the are QSO 9001 compliant.

I use something similar: a digital thermometer from Radio Shack. It has an
indoor/outdoor sensor. I run the outdoor sensor wire inside the case. It has
the advantage that you can mount the probe anywhere inside vs. the
temperature at the drive bay faceplate. I find that the temperature inside
my case is about 20 degrees Fahrenheit higher than room temperature.
