I tend to wander Youtube and Reddit and I wonder what other forums are perhaps good for home pc related information, considering the scheduled change in Google Groups on Feb22 (the scope of which I do not fully understand)?

Not much will change on Feb22.

Algorithmically, the flow of information on the Internet,
follows the television model. If movies are distributed
by siloed subscription ("I need a Disney subscription,
a Netflix subscription..."), then information about hardware
should be dispensed in the same way. I need a Reddit subscription,
a Facebook subscription, a Xitter subscription, some of
which will cost money.

If there is some secret store of information out there (Mastodon),
we'll never find out if it is not indexed by a search engine.

The siloed universe will continue to be siloed.

GoogleGroups will continue to run as a forum, but to what
purpose, who knows exactly. If no one goes there, "we won't
find out by word of mouth". No different than not knowing
what the traffic level is at extremesystems.org (another site
that never shows up in a search).

But with no administrator at GoogleGroups, the signal to noise
ratio should be interesting. Maybe I'll still be able to get
my recreational drug URLs there.

Install a free newsreader (Xnews, 40tude Dialog, ...) and use a free
newsserver (Eternal September for instance) and you'll wonder why you
ever used Google Gropes in the first place.

Have a look at the comp groups in comp.* and uk.comp.*, e.g.
uk.comp.homebuilt

You can access them via an NNTP server like
https://www.i2pn2.org/
https://www.novabbs.com/Thunderbird/Usenet-Thunderbird.html
