Hi...

Trying to decide which memory to buy...I'll be going with corsair XMS Cas2
modules...

My mobo ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, supports Dual DDR mode and supports DDR up to
PC3200...

I would like to have 1 GB Ram, either now or later on when I get enought
money...

Now the question is: Should I buy 2x256 PC2700 DDR (CAS2) and run it in Dual
DDR mode or
buy 1x512 PC3200 and run it in single DDR mode (with later upgrade to 1GB
and running it in Dual)???

How big is the difference in performance with Dual DDR mode versus single
DDR mode???
Will I notice it?
Also Should I rather buy pc2700 rather then pc3200? I won't overclock, so
the difference is about 3-4% increase in performance with PC3200...Don't
know...

Ohh...One more question: If I run Dual DDR mode and add third memory module
(most likely same chip)
What will happen to Dual DDR mode then?
Will it stop running in Dual mode, and I will have just three modules
running in single mode?

FYI: My cpu is AMD Athlon XP 2600 333FSB...and OS is Win2000 Pro or WinXP
Pro (whichever will like my MOBO better :)))

Thanx for any insides or links to benchmarks...

The latter. Buy 512 and later another 512. I don't think the AMD chip
is as hungry for memory bandwidth like the P4 is. Dual chanel helps
but I don't think it's night and day.

In article <w1wca.1257$jA2.1...@newsread2.prod.itd.earthlink.net>,
sim...@earthlink.net says... while attaching C4 explosives to computer
and foaming at the mouth!

You may want to check & make sure that your board is not restricted to
one PC3200 stick.....If it is you'll be stuck with a 512 & not able to
put another in. There are cases like this with MB's & 3200, I did not
see anything in the Manual pertaining to this issue. In fact, I'd like
to know the answer cause this may well be my next board....It will be
hard to part with my A7M266 though..... :0(

Later!

corsair are currently recommending that for n force mobo's to buy their
"twin x" n force memory as stability problems have surfaced buying separate
sticks .see url:
