WRT USB cables, Amazon offers a filter option differentiating between
"male to female" and "female to male" USB cables. Does it really
matter which filtering option is chosen?

Do the results differ?
What USB jacks do you want on this cable?

The Amazon selector supports this:

M/M, M/F, F/F, F/M

The returned results use this:

M/M, M/F, F/F

It's possible the person designing the vendor registration
form, and the person designing the tick boxes, are not the
same person.

M/F and F/M are the same thing at this level. While the
design of the classification system is amusing, it does not
have to represent anything the customer cares about.

It would be about the same as arriving at Tinder,
and seeing a selector for "Head" "Two Arms" "Two Legs".
Placed in some further detailed context, might help.
What if the arms and legs were on the wrong body sockets ?
Sure, you get two arms, but where are they ? That's how
the USB cable is getting treated. Like it just does not
matter.
