well as I said in my earlier post my friend's computer would boot to the
post screen where it was verifying the dma pool and then stop. I finally got
to look at it and it was the strangest thing... his computer has a system
drive, a dvd r/w drive and 2 more HD's in a RAID0 all SATA... and somehow in
the system bios the boot sequence got shifted to RAID then DVD then system
drive.. the strange thing is that my friend doesn't even know how to get
into the system bios. Once I changed everything back it booted properly and
I didn't notice any hardware problems at all.. Any ideas why this would have
changed? The overall system is only about 4 to 5 months old.

Some motherboards are designed to recover from "overclocking failure".
At least, that is the design intent of the BIOS. But any kind of crash,
may trigger a recovery at the BIOS level. The BIOS settings may
return to defaults. On older BIOS (I have one), everything returns to
defaults. On some newer boards, only the clock settings are returned
to "sane" values. Such features mean, that sooner or later, the
user gets to learn about how to work the BIOS :-(
