Has anyone got any details on the performance differences between an
AMD Sampron 3000+ and a AMD Athlon XP 2600?

Which chip would be faster for a system built for gaming?

Athlon XP 2600+ 2133MHz 256KB 266FSB Thoroughbred-B
Athlon XP 2600+ 2083MHz 256KB 333FSB Thoroughbred-B
Athlon XP 2600+ 1917MHz 512KB 333FSB Barton
Sempron 3000+ 2000MHz 512KB 333FSB Barton

The 3000+ is the only socket A Sempron with 512KB L2 cache, so it's actually
a little better than the XP 2600+.

An Athlon 64 would be much better for gaming. An Athlon 64 3000+
is only around $140, and not that much more than a Sempron 3000+.
I suggest that you get the 90 nm socket 939 version of the Athlon 64 3000+.

agreed that's what I went for recently with 1 gig ram
and it's great for games

Half life 2 is superb
