Ok,

I was playing Call of Duty 4... and then I decided to bring down the noise
of the fans a bit... I make them spin slower... the temperature rises a few
degrees...

And then a few seconds later... bzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzb.. strange sound on
speakers...

And the system freezes.

I also noticed something in the bios menu:

APM Configuration options are missing.

Maybe the power supply went bad... maybe from all the power surges... or
maybe from thunder storm... lots and lots of thunder storms lately...

Could be interference from gsm's... the old pentium III monitor gets some
flickers now and then.... maybe wireless network intereference who knows..

But my safest bet so far is probably power supply bad...

This is more or less the worst thing that could happen.

Whoam... there goes the new system again... it just crashed again...

IRQ problem..

However I did read about windows xp x64 edition having some bug which caused
asus a8n32-sli motherboards to crash. I think it was service pack 3 or 2
related or so. I looked in add/remove software progam but there was no info
about service packs or so...

Oh man... sooooo much work.... and now probably all for nothing ?!?

Gje I'll try knoppix or so from boot cd... to see what happens...

Then me go look for new power supply..

Maybe I still have warranty on it or so...

Gjez.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Are you sure that the system did not commit suicide? There was a South Park
episode in which Paris Hilton's little dog got a gun and blew its head off.
Did you ever abuse your computer? Did you ever touch it inappropriately?

The problem is that you have lethally bad PC karma. You are the Bane
of Motherboards, the Box Slayer, the AntiBios, the Vaporizer. After
spending all that money, it will surely blow up.

Buy an HP and never open the box.

You have been warned.

APM is pretty much dead (removed from most BIOSes), ACPI replaced it.
(Windows XP had a tiny bit of support for APM left; it's all gone with
Vista... and ACPI was first introduced around the Windows 2000 days...)

Even the overclocked pentium III 450 mhz to 600 mhz was crashing.

I clocked it back to 450 mhz...

I live in the Netherlands were temperatures are rising more quickly than
anywhere else in the world and my appartment is not very well isolated...

Currently the temperature inside my living room is 27 degrees celcius.

I kinda enjoy sitting behind my PIII...

Now I am left wondering what to do...

The company which sold the power supply went out of bussiness... and the
power supply was very costly... 127 euro's.

I already spent 400 euro's on repairs and replacements... this is starting
to get out of hand...

I am not even sure if the power supply is bad... might be memory modules...
or maybe even something else like the cpu itself etc.

Now the big disadventage of building a computer yourself is starting to
become apperent:

I do not have the necessary "debugging" equipment to figure out what's
broken this time...

Best I could do is reduce to minimum setup... which isn't that much
different and then start guessing.

Maybe I try minimum setup later with one memory chip... to see if it's maybe
the memory... yeah I think that's a good plan.. and also no more x-fi
soundblaster...

Bye,
Skybuck.

Agreed, except for the vendor. What Mr Flying needs is a service
contract from the vendor. HP is a reputable company (once they
recover from Carly and subsequent embarrassments). I would not
consider inflicting Mr Flying upon them. The current winner of my
least desirable major PC vendor is Toshiba, which could use a lesson
in customer service after selling my customers some lemons. I think
Mr Flying is the one person who can do that. Despite the incoherent
descriptions, incomprehensible theories, creative logic, and endless
ramblings, Mr Flying has the persistence necessary to teach Toshiba a
lesson.

As for the immediate problem, it's probably incureable. What needs to
happen is a change in computer environment conducive to game points
accumulation. That's described in Feng Shui for office and home
computers. For example:

<http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/HowTo:Feng_Shui_Your_Computer>
Never position your heat sinks and water-cooling next to each
other. Water and fire are complete opposites. But if it can't
be helped, place a small plant or pot of herbs in between to
weaken the negative influence.

Allow fresh chi to revitalise your computer by opening all
your (desktop) windows for at least 20 minutes a day.

<http://www.rising-dragon.co.uk/news/200512-logitech-feng-shui.php>
Logitech’s range of cordless computer peripherals help promote
clarity of mind by clearing away the clutter of cables that
entangle many rooms within the home.

Workspaces can often contain an excess of Yang, or active energy,
especially where there is a build up of computing equipment. You
can balance this with the presence of plants. I recommend Peace
Lilies since they give off huge amounts of oxygen. Their presence
is calming and they help promote clear thought.

<http://www.circle-of-light.com/fengshui/fs-cures.html>
(Lots of good advice on positioning the computer and display)

Plenty more found using Google search for "Feng Shui Computers".
Hopefully, by following the principles and guidelines for building,
positioning, and operating your computer, the crashes and posting to
S.E.D. will both cease.

Neither do most computer shops, which merely try components in another
computer until they encounter failure.

> Best I could do is reduce to minimum setup... which isn't that much
> different and then start guessing.

You should do that and measure all voltages with a meter and run a
good memory diagnostic for hours. Then add 1 component at a time and
test, repeating until everything is installed.

It's a clear violation of the netiquette to post unrelated stuff in
newsgroup. Since he has been advised to stop it by lots of people for a
long time and also since he uses the newsgroups more like a personal
diary than participating on the ongoing discussions his postings
probably have reached a level of SPAM which as you say is illegal.

BS. Of course there are general rules for posting on the UseNet:
<http://www.faqs.org/faqs/usenet/posting-rules/>

These rules are agreed upon by virtually all providers, and you usually
agree to them, too, when agreeing to the terms of your usenet provider.
And because of this providers usually insert a complaint address in all
postings made via them (in your case its newsm...@cox.net). Don't be
fooled that they don't care because they do as providers not caring for
complaints risk to loose their newsfeed. Of course it depends on the
level of complaints, if for example I would complain to
newsm...@cox.net that you're an offending prick then they very likely
won't care. In case of SkyFuck they very likely will.

Yeah, right. Maybe it still hasn't reached you bushwhackers yet but in
these parts of the world that have reached a certain level of
civilization there are some agreed rules people life after:

Be sure you document the offenses over a period of time and let the ISP know
who they are and what they are doing. I even used the SPAM rule against

IMHO he isn't worth the effort for me, I think if these that complain in
the groups about SkyFuck do that to his ISP it should be enough to waste
him. As it seems I'm not the only one who thinks he is just a PITA.

Indeed. I can remember a time when Usenet wasn't full of morons like
SkyFuck and this Australian bushwhacker that appeared recently. But I
guess this is a side effect of todays kiddies moving from P2P networks
to Usenet binary groups because they think that they are completely
anonymous there.
