Nope, it was actually a Texas Instruments TI-99/4A puter which I had
Then later, helped hack HASP to take over a 360-65 without the operators
knowing - until some showoff triggered the self destruct and they ran a core
dump to trace that. Lucky there weren't any actual charges installed! If you
know what that meant you ARE a codger :)

1. Increased case size - my 'case' just kindof swelled in the middle
2. Frequent memory related crashes - my 'ram' just randamly emptied or just
failed to function. A cold reboot the next day would often solve this.
3. HD malfunctions - even the longer term storage got flakey.
4. PSU problems - my 'PSU' unit was definatley malfunctioning with
'troughs' but no 'spikes'. This would usually level out by 6 hours up
time...

they used to be much treasured by the hippy fraternity for roaches! For some
reason the inked part was especially sought after!
Robbin
relative youngster at 40 by all accounts!
Ive worked for 25yrs at the same place......home of the first ever
computer(to store data that is)...at Manchester University...(Manchester
Computing where the first computer..valves an all... was reconstructed again
in 98/99 with some of the original guys who worked on it..(slightly grey but
non the less enthusiastic) The Computer has now been re-located as an
exhibit in the Muse of Sci and Indus...in Manchester uk...(its on the web..
I used to work on the old..very old computers..which were the size of a
large garage...but had a massive 512k memory(scary eh)...... most of the
data storage was on mag tape..
and even paper punch cards...of which i used to input via readers..tape and
card..also we used to input on things we called MOP terminals..(multi
online programing..where one line instuctions were put in real
time...hoho...how many paper rolls we used....)
ICL and CDC were some of the big mainframe suppliers..
pc's brought the down fall of centralised computing...
(and probably did me a favour my moving me sideways from operations to
Network installation.....anyway...just a bit of history..
Geoff..
