FWIW I'm using Windows 7/64 on an earlier Asus P7P55D Evo motherboard
with that CPU + 8GB RAM

Running just fine for the best part of two years now, spec wise it was
pretty much the best at the time without going to a 1366 socket
CPU/Motherboard.
There is a latter version (P7P55DE EVO) that sports SATA 6Gb/s and USB 3
that would make more sense.

But I would recommend you look at the newer Sandy Bridge architecture
CPU/Motherboards for even better performance unless you already have the
CPU to hand.
