We have 4 outside people using Goldsync. I want the server to accept
whatever changes they make in the records.
It accepts they syncing connection but does not accept the changes they have
made to the records. They enter new contact history and this is not
uploaded to the server.
The record on the server shows a different account manager name than the
account name on their laptop, could this be the problem? Can I force ther
server to accept their changes?
Thanks

Hi Ron,

I've certainly had some fun myself with GoldSync.

Basically the first thing to do is open the Goldsync administration where
you can view the site profiles you have defined for your 4 users. Right
click one and choose properties... you get a wizard. Work your way through
the screens using back and next and see if you can spot a setting which
might cause this. You can pretty much tie down a remote user to almost
everything so you can tell him not to sync other people's calendars or be
able to update data across the whole of goldmine etc.

Failing this, it's most likely a sync stamp problem. I'm sure one of the
other Goldmine gurus will explain it better but basically if a change
happened in the past and the remote user didn't sync this change... unless
you "wind back" the cut-off date (also contained within properties of
goldsync profiles), the remote user will never get this change.

Use caution when winding back the cutoff date as you might inadvertantly
overwrite "newer" data with older stuff.

Personally, when I get problems with Goldsync, I simply remove goldmine
completely from the remote user's computer and then re-generate them a fresh
Goldsync EXE installer (contains goldmine and setup for that remote user).
Once they install that, they then sync fully and then the cutoff times are
all correct and you should be ok to sync stuff back and forth without any
grief

Hope that helps!

Steve.

When you set the cut-off date back, it shouldn't overwrite anything. The
data will still have sync logs that say when it was changed and by whom.
That will be compared to the server's data and if that change's time stamp
is newer (and only then) the record will be retrieved. If the server has a
deletion order for that item or a newer change, it will be ignored.

Ron's problem could be any number of things. As you know, there are
literally hundreds of options and combinations thereof in the GoldSync area.
That's the main reason you have to buy GoldSync licenses from a
GoldSync-certified VAR -- they want you to at least know SOMEONE who has a
clue with it! :)

Ron, knowing more about what the process monitor says when it encounters
those records could be helpful to troubleshooting this problem. It might
also be a good idea for you to upgrade your GoldMine from 6.0 to the latest
6.7 version. There were patches to the 6.0 version and updates to 6.5, 6.6
and 6.7 for a good reason -- BUGS! Of course, some new and useful features
were introduced, but literally hundreds of bugs were fixes along the way and
there were quite a number of strange ones in the area of Sync... No, it's
not guaranteed that it would fix you up, but it would be one of my first
steps, if you were my client. Otherwise we could go round and round,
tearing our hair out only to find that everything was done properly, there's
just a bug that prevents data from synchronizing if your name is Ron and you
live in Time zone XYZ and run a particular version of Windows (just an
example)...
