As I understand the sequence;

- Audacity was acquired by MuseGroup
- MG proceeded to stumble w/ PR releases about telemetry
- the telemetry story rose to the level of *rumors* of audacity being
'bad'
- the current status is that the user can opt in to some error
reporting according to this Jul 23 ghacks article

Audacity publishes updated Privacy Policy and an Apology

One has to be a student of copy left, strong and weak, full and partial,
permissive and share-alike; or rather a professor of, in order to
'appreciate' pooh's arguments.

Eek! What would you like for me to find in that almost 7000 wd thread?

While I prefer text links over vid ones, that is a bit meaty.

How about the reg story?

Audacity fork maintainer quits after alleged harassment by 4chan losers

With everything else I don't want phoning home I block it with a firewall.

Worst one so far is Process Explorer from Sysinternals, now Microsoft,
hammers the hell outa the firewall trying to connect to various
addresses and ports for 30 second to a minutes after booting.

What I can see is an opportunity, an asset up for grabs, and a lot of
string pulling.

Of course all the devout can see is a chance to acquire virtue and join
the march to Capitol Hill.

The business and politics of free software doesn't belong here.
