I was looking at an old message thread about Shutdown Freeware.
Most of the discussion was various ways of doing a shutdown from the
Windows command line.
One of the Shutdown Freeware links posted by wasbit was for Shutdown
Scheduler.
I first noticed it last year on Softpedia.
"You can configure program launches (e.g. start selected programs at a
scheduled action)"
https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Launchers-Shutdown-Tools/Shutdown-Scheduler.shtml
For people interested in doing some task before a shutdown, wouldn't
this Freeware be useful, or is there a way to do it from the command line?

I've been using Poweroff for ages. I think it's fair to say it's
abandonware today but does suits my needs. Works either as a

https://poweroff.en.uptodown.com/windows

N.B. Version offered on both sites above is 3.0.1.3 while mine is
3.0.2.0. I also found a v3 somewhere but never tried it.

Thanks. I tend to favor smaller programs. :)

To run multiple commands before a scheduled shutdown, why couldn't a
batch file (.bat) be scheduled in Task Scheduler?

<bunch of commands>
shutdown.exe /s /f

If any of the commands require administrator privileges, make sure to
define the scheduled event to have elevated privileges.

I don't see the need to keep running in the background another
scheduler. The Softpedia article is dated back to 2010. It lists only
Windows 2000, 2003, and XP as supported. The author's web site doesn't
list Shutdown Scheduler, so it got abandoned (but I don't know how long
ago other than Softpedia's date stamp).

It was last updated in 2010, but it does work on my Windows 10 computer.
If I knew more about batch files, I might consider your suggestion.
Yuhler's suggestion of the very small program, PowerOff, seems to be a
very good option.

Just as a follow-up, I got my version from author's site which I
could not find anymore. If desired, I can upload my own copy to a
temporary location (e.g. FileConvoy) and publish download link here.
Just let me know.

The good about Poweroff is that I can set it to
shutdown/sleep/hibernate my computer when say a long task ends. No
need to bother task completion. I recently started an HD cloning and
left for vacation. Found it done when re-started the computer several
days after.

VanguardLH presented the following explanation :
Strange, on this page of Softpedia, it list "Windows All" for the
platforms it performs under, updated July 14, 2014 and they also give
it a 5 Star Rating

Thanks for the offer, but I posted the current Home Page for PowerOff in
my reply yesterday.

https://duofoto.be/jbosman/applications.html

You can download both version 3.0.1.3 and the beta version 3.0.2.0 from
there.

I use it with the FreeCommander favorite tools as a way to get to the
Advanced Startup Options.

shutdown.exe /r /o /f /t 0

To me, Shutdown Freeware would only be useful if the shutdown was done
after a task completed, like PowerOff and Shutdown Scheduler.

Vanguard's post referred to System Scheduler, found on Softpedia at the
link you quoted above, not PowerOff.

I meant Shutdown Scheduler, not System Scheduler. :)

Not strange at all. You are comparing 2 *different* programs. No idea
how you wandered off the other program unless your intent was really to
illustrate another solution.

I noticed that a bit later after my follow-up. Senior moments happens
from time to time.

Thanks, but I know you can do the Shutdown itself from the command line.
Unless you have a batch file scheduled in the Task Scheduler (like
Vanguard suggested), Freeware like Shutdown Scheduler or PowerOff would
be needed to do a shutdown after a task completed.

The suggestion [of using shutdown.exe] was given 10 days ago.
