The program eliminates bad sectors of Floppy disk surface. It does not
hide bad sectors in the file system, as Scandisk like utilities,it
really restores them. Most damaged disk have incorrectly magnetized disk
surface. There are also bad sectors that cannot be recovered because the

another of his recommendations: a registry cleaner that I did install.
I am worried about installing spyware, or software with viruses, trojons,
etc. in them. Sounds like software recommended by Tramp has a decent chance
of being the latter? Please advise

Well, no matter who recommends a program and where you get it from you
should ALWAYS scan it first. You should always keep your Antivirus
programs uptodate.

How much I enjoy many of your posts, and how many older programs long
forgotten by me you gave back... this is not a very sound advise!
First of all I have to see the first Freeware ANTI-VIRUS program that will
detect spyware in an installation program under download.
Second, most of the time you find out either at the end of installation (if
they are "kind enough" to mention the type of spyware to be installed and
ask for your permission.) or, in the worst case, when it is too late and
the junk is already on your system!
"Safe Hex" is good, but why not advise the OP to run Adaware SE Personal
Edition; and to run Spybot Search and Destroy, run Javacool's SpywareGuard
and SpywareBlaster? (Note: Adaware and Spybot can be downloaded from
"majorgeeks.com", spyware tools section; this in case spyware should block
your access to the author's sites); Javacool's software can be downloaded
from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com. In extreme cases it might be
necessary to ask for expert help (and run HiJackThis)... see MajorGeek's
anti-spyware page and forum, or Wilder's Security Forums
(http://www.wilderssecurity.com).
Although the program is overly sensitive to certain types of software, I
also would advise the OP to download A-Squared, register for a free account
(unless you subscribe to their newsletter, you only will get one message
from them: the one containing the registration key), and scan your system
with that one too!
Note: ALWAYS update anti-anything programs first, before running the scans;
all programs mentioned in the above are freeware.

He seems to post links without trying any of the software. He's about
as useful as yesterday's news. If you want to find software to try,
do a web search or download from Tramp's links. If you want
recommendations based on actual usage, read other people's posts.

In addition to my previous post: I have downloaded this program and
installed it, and checked the system for spyware... none was found, the
OP's problem must be coming from something else; another program he
installed around the same time perhaps?

after the removal of Adware components or improper uninstall of
firewall applications or other tools that modify the XP network and
Winsock settings. If you encounter connection problems after removing
network related software, Adware or after registry clean-up; and all
other ways fail, then give WinSock XP Fix a try. It can create a
registry backup of your current settings, so it is fairly safe to use.
We actually tested it on a test machine that was having a Winsock
problem due to some Adware removal, and after running the utility and
rebooting, the connectivity was restored.
