I've been using it since version 0.1 or thereabouts.

Gparted is great for re-partitioning and re-sizing and copying disks,
and there are many useful other bits.

I have it in a 4G USB drive that's being carried in my 1990 waist pouch
all the time. :)

It's a permanent part of my toolkit. I've used it twice to transfer
data from b0rken NTFS boxen. It's "just" a live CD but they make it
very easy to boot the CD, configure the network, mount the disk and
either transfer off the data or start making the repairs.

Great utility.

I reckon, personally, to be respectful towards your 1990 waist pouch
you should carry it on 1990 vintage portable media.

Google's pretty unreliable, but it turns up hits for me, though not as
many as it should.

It's hard to get everything anybody might want on such a CD, but so far
it's always had everything I've had a need for.

One more thing: that vintage 1990 waist pouch had visited the World
Trade Center in New York back in exactly 1990. :)

A lot of people use Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD):

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com

and Ultimate Boot CD for Windows (UBCD4Win):

http://www.ubcd4win.com

Both seem to have a more comprehensive set of tools than SystemRescueCd,
although it might not hurt to have all three discs around.

However, the most recent UBCD4Win is dated 4/21/09 and UBCD doesn't seem
to have been updated since 17 Sep 2008. There's current talk in the UBCD
forums about development of a V5 though.

John,

I used UBCD a while back and had some huge issues with it. It's virtually
worthless for new hardware IMHO. Never tried UBCD4WIn though, always used
BART PE instead.

I doubt that you would be happy with UBCD4WIN then, since it's based on
UBCD.

Guess one good thing about being too poor to buy a new computer is that
I can still use either.

I think that the UBCD4Win project bought a license to use Bart PE as
its base. It is pretty much a Bart CD with far more freeware tools and
is now a single file that is very easy to prep. By "prep" I mean
install and update drivers and malware definitions.

Use the Driver Pack plugin for new hardware, guys. I use the UBCD4Win
very frequently. :)
