Hello:

I'm looking for a freeware program that converts .bmp format to
.jpg/.jpeg [in batches] and that could also reduce the size of a large
.jpg/.jpeg [also in batches]

I take alot of photos with my digital camera and the files are quite
large. I would like to keep the original format to burn the images to a cd.

For emailing the pictures I'd like to shrink the file size.
A picture at 2048 X 1360 is over 1.25 mb in size.
This can be a problem.

I already have Irfanview but can only shrink files one at a time.

Anyone have any suggestions/help?

Thanks !!

Have you tried Irfanview's BATCH option?

My bad. Very bad.

Didn't even see it, but there it is in Irfanview at:
File -> Batch Conversion/Rename.

Now, as someone replied, is ACDSee freeware??

According to

http://www.acdsystems.com/english/Products/ACDSee/index

it's not freeware, but 49.99.

Additionally, you can install the IrfanView ShellExtension
(www.baxbex.com/products.html, at bottom), which will add an extra menu in
Explorer's right-click menu with conversion options. You can select a
group of files, then select IrfanView > Convert to BMP (or whatever other
format). See the screenshot.

In IrfanView you can use Batch conversion which will convert all the
files at once. From IrfanView use File / BatchConversion then click
the Batch conversion button and select "Select Advanced Options".
You need to select the files you want to convert, and their output
directory.
