Google Goobuntu Linux OS : Ubuntu Distro

Google has often been rumored to be working on an operating system
product to compete on fair levels with the software giants Microsoft.
Albeit doing so is easily said than done, we now have some
confirmations on a possible project which might indeed see Google
release an operating system. Then again, it could be just another
version of a Linux Distro.

Google has somewhat confirmed that they are indeed working on a
version of the popular Ubuntu Distro of Linux operating system, and it
is codenamed Goobuntu. No other info on the project has been unveiled
by Google.

Might mean GoBuntu instead....

Gobuntu 8.04.1 and future of Gobuntu

Gobuntu 8.04.1 is the final release of Gobuntu. The project has merged
back to mainline Ubuntu, so there is no need for a separate distribution.
Also, Ubuntu cannot reach the level of gNewSense since it has restricted
+ multiverse repositories, but it should aim to incorporate changes from
gNewSense to the extent possible.

The new "Free software only" installation option in the normal Ubuntu
(press F6 in the boot menu twice) basically achieves what Gobuntu is
aiming for, as long as the general goal of having "clean" main and
universe repositories is fulfilled (which is goal of the Ubuntu as a
whole). Given that many goals Gobuntu has are goals of Ubuntu in general
also, and the fact that gNewSense is anyway doing the work that can also
benefit Ubuntu (knowledge of problematic packages), the mission of
Gobuntu is a bit up in the air. There's discussion initiated by Mark
Shuttleworth on the gobuntu-devel mailing list, continuing also in May.
Feel free to participate in the discussion so that some conclusion of
what'll be done can be made.

wiki is good on clarifying this go/goo -buntu issue.

Go- is way way into free only.

Goo- is googlish but not chrome os.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goobuntu Not to be confused with Gobuntu
or Google Chrome OS. - While both Google and Mark Shuttleworth, creator
of Ubuntu, have confirmed that Goobuntu exists and is used
internally,[4] both have strongly denied suggestions that Google has any
plans to market the operating system.[5] Almost half of the 20,000
employees of Google use Goobuntu.[6]

Two separate 'OS'es - Insiders/workers at Google are already using
goobuntu

Can't find the link - but it exists okay :)

From what I've read, "goobuntu" is android[linux] for larger platforms.
But, if it handles applications anything like android, it's not going
to use the X server... I'm more interested in it as a phone os than a
"cloud computing device."

Is it a trend of customized corporate networks on steroids? When does
Yahoo! start using Yabuntu? Will Walmart have registers that run on
Walbuntu? What if flights were scheduled on Airbuntu? Will McDonald's
want McBuntu? Would you trust your money to Bankuntu?

Bankuntu sounds safer than MS Winbank 7.
