I reformatted my DELL pc. With it, came a DVD containing Roxio CD/DVD
burner. It installs several crap things. I am thinking to go for a
freeware.

What is your recommendation?

Hello, n o s p a m p l e a s e!

http://infrarecorder.org/

InfraRecorder is a free CD/DVD burning solution for Microsoft Windows.
It offers a wide range of powerful features; all through an easy to use
application interface and Windows Explorer integration.

InfraRecorder is released under GPL version 3.
Features

* Create custom data, audio and mixed-mode projects and record them
to physical discs as well as disc images.
* Supports recording to dual-layer DVDs.
* Blank (erase) rewritable discs using four different methods.
* Record disc images (ISO and BIN/CUE).
* Fixate discs (write lead-out information to prevent further data
from being added to the disc).
* Scan the SCSI/IDE bus for devices and collect information about
their capabilities.
* Create disc copies, on the fly and using a temporary disc image.
* Import session data from multi-session discs and add more sessions
to them.
* Display disc information.
* Save audio and data tracks to files (.wav, .wma, .ogg, .mp3 and
.iso).

Kindly regards.

The best for me too, but not much intuitive for simple operations like
create data/audio disk or have a copy.

Ashampoo Burning Studio 2010 has become my favorite:

(the link says 2009, but the version listed is 2010)

For small and simple, I also like BurnAware Free:

Make it... no, hang on.

I use different ones depending upon the situation. Although I do use
ImgBurn, I use JetBee when I quickly want to burn a data disc without
too much farting around. I find it quick and easy to use.

I like JetBee too.

If I could only have 1, it would be ImgBurn, but luckily I can have
10, which I have.

I wish ImgBurn has Explorer shell extensions! (Right click, burn to
DVD etc.)

I agree, having a right click feature is very handy. Here are some, for
those that are interested, that have the right click context feature.

You could add your own. One way is with FastExplorer...it will let you do
all *sorts* of things with context menus.

Also:

FileMenu Tools can customise the context menu of Windows Explorer, add
some built-in utilities that perform operations on files and folders, add
customised commands which run external applications, copy/move to a
specific folder or delete specific file types, configure the Send to...
submenu, and enable/disable commands which are added by other
applications to the context menu. Win
95/98/ME/NT/2000/2003/XP/Vista/2008/7.
http://www.lopesoft.com/en/

MMM free is a very easy to use Windows context menu manager. The context
menu is the menu that appears when you right click a file in Windows
Explorer. Add or remove menu items easily. Win XP/Vista/2008/7.
http://hace-software.com/programs.shtml

Open++ is a shell context menu extension that allows you to quickly open
the target file or folder with the predefined commands in Windows
Explorer. It adds a submenu with customized menu items to the shell
context menu when you right click a file or folder icon, or a folder
background in Windows Explorer. Open++ submenu is similar to the standard
Send To menu but is much more advanced, since it allows you to customize
the Title, Program, Arguments, Working Directory, Icon, Associated File
Types for all commands that are added to the shell context menu. Win
2000/2003/XP/Vista/2008/7.
http://www.freewebs.com/dengdun/en/openxx.htm

OpenExpert is very easy to use. To configure the "Open with" menu for a
file type just right click on a file of that type, point to "Open with"
and select "Configure Applications" to add or remove programs from the
menu. In the configuration dialog you can also include applications that
should be present for all file types. Win
95/98/ME/NT/2000/2003/XP/Vista/2008/7.
