Here's a freeware offering primarily of use to coders, hackers, etc...
ASCII Scan renders any file as 7-bit text. Essentially a filter,
this application allows you to peek at the textural content of
otherwise unviewable files.
Uses include: Viewing hidden text in EXE, DLL, PDF, and salvaging
information from corrupt data.
Once a file is processed with ASCII Scan, you can copy/paste the
results into any word processor or text editor, including Notepad.
ASCII Scan can also attach itself to the 'Send To' menu for easy use.
ASCII Scan stats:
- Zero 3rd party dependencies
- Will not touch your registry
- EXE file size weighs in at about 34 kilo bytes

Hope some of you can put this tool to work, enjoy!

Thanks! ...a couple more of the same kind:
BinText
http://www.foundstone.com/us/resources/proddesc/bintext.htm
"A small, very fast and powerful text extractor that will be
of particular interest to programmers. It can extract text
from any kind of file and includes the ability to find plain
ASCII text, Unicode (double byte ANSI) text and Resource
strings, providing useful information for each item in the
optional "advanced" view mode. Its comprehensive filtering
helps prevent unwanted text being listed. The gathered list
can be searched and saved to a separate file as either a
plain text file or in informative tabular format. Useful
tip: Place a shortcut to Bintext in your Windows\SendTo
folder so that you can automatically send files to BinText
by right-clicking on their names and choosing Send To ->
BinText from the drop-down menu. You can set this up by
right-clicking on bintext.exe, selecting Copy then open up
your Windows\SendTo folder, right click the mouse and select
Paste Shortcut."
TextScan
http://analogx.com/contents/download/Programming/textscan/Freeware.htm
"AnalogX TextScan searches any binary file for a minimum and
maximum string length, and then returns all occurrences in
sorted order... But it doesn't just stop there, it also has
the ability to identify most functions and DLL's inside of a
file, and even has the ability to extract both char and
unichar strings! This is a great first step in getting a
better understanding of what's happening inside of a program
you're interested in, or even for just looking for the
occasional Easter egg!"
Bin to Ascii
http://www.gdargaud.net/Hack/BinToAscii.html
"a simple generic binary to ascii file converter. It reads
files containing integers or floating points numbers written
according to a given format, then writes them all as
comma/tab separated ascii in a text file. The binary files
structure should be an optional header followed by a
succession of records."
TextExtract
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/Misc__Text_Editing_Tools/TextExtract.html
"TextExtract is a small and simple program that scans a file
for text strings, extracts them and saves them into a
separate file. Useful if, say, you have a corrupted word
processor file, or if you just want to see what text, if
any, is inside a file. Configurable extraction. Lovely new
interface. Very straightforward to use."
