I always liked PFE (Programmers File Editor) by Alan Phillips for
printing source code. Although PFE has been discontinued for years,
it still is one of the best freeware editors available.

With PFE you can print *real* booklets, i.e. you can group pages to
signatures - like you see them in real books.

Please note, that you need to switch to landscape mode in the page
setup menu to enable booklet printing.

On further consideration. Since you wrote:

you may also consider using PSUtils, which contains a psbook
program to format pages into booklets:

http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/psutils.htm

Create the *.ps file, that you'll use as input for psbook by
printing to any Windows printer driver supporting PostScript.
The Apple Color LW 12/660 is approved for such cases. (Connect
it to FILE, instead of a printer port like LPT1.)

After the conversion with psbook use Ghostscript to print the
resulting *.ps file or to convert it to a *.pdf. Which in turn
can be printed on any printer recognized by the OS.

Get the latest Ghostscript version here:

http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost

If you just need multiple pages on one side, most *.pdf printer
drivers probably support this, depending on the base driver they
are using. FreePdfXP, for instance uses above said Apple Color LW
as standard, which supports up to 16 pages on each sheet of paper.
(No booklet functionality, though.) Get FreePdfXP here:

http://freepdfxp.de/xpDownload.html

You nevertheless need to download and install a current Ghostscript
version, for FreePdfXP. A link to the last but one version is on the
FreePdfXP download page available. For the last one - see above... ;-)

Other chains of executing your task are possible, including batch
conversation for a huge number of files (requires some piping) or
the inclusion of psbook into the FreepdfXP conversion process (look
under <Pre Pdf action> in the Profile Editor of FreePdfXP). If you
need pointers in one or the other direction, feel free to ask again.
:-)
