As usual, when I search on google I get thousands of hits, it
makes it impossible to select the best, or non-infected files
very difficult -- so I'd appreciate if you'd share your thoughts
with me.

Thanks!

Father Guido formulated on Tuesday :

Have you tried recording & then converting?

This works very well.

Freecorder Toolbar

I checked Freecorder out, it looks quite interesting if no spyware
etc. However my problem is having AA files and converting them to MP3
to use on my MP3 player. A 20 hour audiobook would take 20 hours to
record.

Thanks for the Freecorder tip!

Softpedia checks all it's downloads for spyware etc.

Just googled & got this.

Thanks guys, I'm going to try Super to see if it'll
convert the files. The other option is just to record
in real time.

Thanks again!

What about this ?

http://reviews.cnet.com/2300-11340_7-86.html

Personally I would use MeGUI
with Avisynth Directshow input filter and MP3 output encoder.

This is ready to use for me,
but it is not quick and easy solution for everybody.

Found something here:

No idea what a .aa file is, and if it has DRM, don't really
want to.

Sorry to reply to an old link, but I see people are still using it. If you take my advice DO NOT install Freecorder. I did an hour ago and and my anti-virus immediately went mad.

I've spent the last hour trying to sort my system out. Delta Search (which refuses to be uninstalled) has completely taken over my Internet Explorer and made it unusable. Luckily I use a different browser.

When trying to remove Delta Search virus from the system, you should firstly
eliminate it from Add/Remove Programs list. For that, click the Start button
and then select Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs. Besides,
remove these entries as well, if they appear in the list: Delta Chrome
Toolbar, Delta toolbar, Yontoo, Browser Protect and Mixi.DJ. Additionally,
remove Delta Search from your browsers:

Internet Explorer:

1.. Open Internet Explorer, go 'Tools' -> "Manage Add-ons' -> 'Toolbars
and Extensions' and uninstall Delta Search and other entries that may be
unknown for you.
2.. Click ''Tools' -> 'Manage addons' -> 'Search Providers' and choose the
search engine you used before.
Mozilla Firefox:

1.. Open Mozilla Firefox, go 'Tools' -> 'Add-ons' -> 'Extensions'; find
Delta Search and other unknown entries and click 'Uninstall'.
2.. Go 'Tools' -> 'Options' and reset the startup homepage to google.com,
yahoo.com or similar search page.
Google Chrome:

1.. Click the Chrome menu button on the Google Chrome browser, select
Tools -> Extensions. Here, look for Delta Search extension and get rid of it
by clicking on the Recycle Bin.
2.. Click on wench icon, go to settings and choose 'Manage search
engines'. Change search engine to google or other. Then Go to section "On
start" and make sure you get blank page while creating new tab.
Now go download Malwarebytes (mbam) http://www.malwarebytes.org/

And in future please please only download 'stuff' from the homepage of the
actual software vendor/provider...
When downloading, choose custom install, and watch for toolbars :-)

Cheers

I'd recommend TunesKit to you if you want to convert AA audiobooks from Audible to MP3. It's not a freeware though. However, it does provide the free trial version in advance for you to test the conversion by yourself. For more details about this professional audiobook converter, you can visit the source page: http://www.tuneskit.com/audiobook-converter-win.html

The best way and most easiest way to convert .aa to .mp3 is to:

1. Get Twisted wave (mac) or audacity.

2. Start to record with audactiy or twisted wave

3.Play .aa file

4. After 4/5/6/ hours your audactiy or twisted wave or any other voice recored will have recorded .aa file into mp3.

5. Save file as mp3 and youre good to go.

6. Do it at night if file is5 or more hours. edit excess silence at the end.

Please share.

Enjoy

I use this to convert Audible AAX files to MP3:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/aaxtomp3/

It is a German program and uses German text but pretty easy to figure out. I realize a lot of people shy away from sourceforce.net but this is a safe file.

Take this with a grain of salt because it's not a direct answer...

I didn't test it, so assume that this response is just a "keyword"
response, which is the response not to the exact question, but the response
to this "keyword" question:

Q: What is good freeware to convert video/audio from anything to anything
else on Windows or Linux?

A: Super (an older version like v2010.build.38_20100901)
A: Handbrake <https://handbrake.fr/>
A: ShotCut <https://shotcut.com/download/>

IMHO, only if all three of those _fail_ to convert, would I bother to try
the suggested "Avdshare Audio Converter".

Caveat: This is a keyword-driven response, basically to a different
question, which is the question of what's a good audio/video converter.

Actually, for audio conversion, I suspect Audacity can also do good stuff,
can it not? Also FFMPEG will do a great job to MP3.

I'd try _all_ of those, before touching avdshare, personally.
YMMV.

How thoughtful. Just what I was looking for: To listen to half my
music in half the time.

It's really meant for speed-listening to music.

Trial limitations: converts just half if the audio files is less than
5 minutes long, only 5 minutes if its longer than that; nag screen.
The Skin menu features the default skin only. The Getting Started
instructions say that you should load a video file

Just ran batch of MotorHead (a German band) MP3s and couldn't get rid
of extraneous material, edit a bunch of album tag fields.

Might be time to do the update thing with my MP3TAG, 2011-ish,
freeware version;- maybe from a list of all available version
updates. Either that or Foobar, which strangely still shows the
original TAGs, I don't want, even after MP3TAG has finished editing
and does not, shows correctly for edited results apart the original.

(those octals sure do kick in on encodes)

Neither, just so, so (asi, asi). More along a German anomaly, as AC/DC
is to Australian;- never near makes more than allusions to reaching
through, though, percussively into driven Brazilian metal.

2.49a here. I could say 'if it ain't broke why fix it (so it is)'.
It's an obsequious age of the new and improved update, still, and
people really need to do it for at least a sense of adventurous fun.
All except for me: I've been doing it too long.

To choose the best software to convert AA to MP3, you can give AudFree Audible Converter a try: https://www.audfree.com/auditior/
It has the ability to convert AA to MP3 at 30X faster speed without touching the original audio quality with the option of 'Keep Lossless AA/AAX'.
It's very easy to operate. Even without the tech skills, you can easily convert AA to MP3 with it.
