When XP support ends from Microsoft, what's the thought about some of the
antivirus programs like Avast keeping support for XP?

I guess it would be better to ask/discuss here

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0

But Antivirus is security software,
and XP EOL means end of security support from MS.

Even if Avast would run on XP,
you would highly recommended not to do so,
as it may will not cover all exposed security holes.

Jeffrey - Do you intend to keep running XP connected to the internet
when that happens knowing that windows updates will no longer be
available? Do you know something you'd like to share as I'd sure as heck
would like to keep my "work computer" (XP sp3) and not code with windows
7?

What do you mean by "when XP support ends from Microsoft"? Mainstream
support ended over 3 years ago! Extended support means you pay through
the nose for specialized help (http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/).
Microsoft provides security updates until the end of extended support.

http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=3223

With Microsoft no longer producing security updates after the end of
extended support, you can pretty much figure other security products
will similarly drop their support. So you have around another 2 years
of support for Windows XP. I'm hoping by then that Microsoft comes out
with Windows 9 since Windows 8 is such a bad joke for anything better
than a tablet.
