I wanted to find out if there's an update to jkdefrag, of which I have
version 3.36.
I found out that he isn't updating jkdefrag anymore (and that I have the
most recent version) but that he's doing a new program called MyDefrag.

What is the difference between JKDefrag and MyDefrag?
The description on the website(s) is practically word-for-word the same,
other than he says the new program has a scripting language.

I have to disagree.
On website http://www.mydefrag.com, on forum,
and in the MD help file is enough information
for you to have picture of the differences.

Lets say JKDefrage is like "dumb" calculator,
and MyDefrag like programable one, or like a PDA.

On one hand MyDefrag can immitate JKDefrag behavior by proper script.
(more or less, as some equivalent internal routines changed
and are said of being significantly improved.)

OTOH you can organize the volume by any way you want and can
( best if you know what and why are you really doing ).
This is not the case of JKDefrag.

BTW, at first reference
there is a custom use noun ( Jeroan Kessels or author )
instead of pronoun (he), so does the webpage URL is useful
for readers.

I usually have problems on XP systems on which I install MyDefrag, but
not if I install JKDefrag. The problems are manifest when I set the
screensaver to use MyDefrag, and that's one of it's most beneficial
features. MyDefrag works fine on Vista/win7 systems.

I use MD on Vista64 premium and on XP Pro, but never with screesaver,
as I do not suppose it is wise way. I use it on demand at home,
or scheduled for lunch break at work.

Try to search the forum for e.g.

site:mydefrag.com screensaver problem

or ask at http://www.mydefrag.com/forum/index.php

You haven't stated your OS but if you are running Windows 7 you may find this interesting.

Until reading these links I've depended upon MS defrag tools. Switching
to MyDefrag 4.3.1 today (stable since 2010), and anticipating
substantial regrowth of hair on my bald spot, among other benefits.
THANKS!

Last time I looked (some time ago) neither of those would defrag NTFS
system area. Puran claims to do that and it also nicely puts itself into
the context menu so you can defrag individual files or folders.

It is not true, MD defrag MFT and very most of $files,
scope is OS dependent.

Also, defragmentation is only one of 3 essential parts
of the whole job of a good "Defragmenter".
