Program descriptions may be submitted now. Programs must have a complete
description to be *eligible* for nomination to PL2005. See:
http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2005/2005PL-Procedures.php
The PL2005 Nominations page lists eligible programs and links to the
program descriptions. See:
http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2005/2005PL-Nominations.php
When nominations open eligible programs will be listed in the first post
in the nominations thread to facilitate nominations and seconds.
IMO your favorites will have a better chance of selection to PL2005 if
you submit your program descriptions *soon*. :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you. :) :) :)
FYI to all: Please submit program descriptions before the start of
nominations if you possibly can. It takes a lot of time to check and
input them. TIA
I think posting each program description separately would make it easier
for others to comment on the descriptions: suggest additional info,
corrections etc.
The files that are *listed* on the web pages are the files that will be
*downloaded* for the PL2005 CD (if the app is selected as PW and we have
the author's permission). If two files (Irfanview plugins etc.) or file
versions (WIN 9x/NE, WIN NT/2000/XP) are recommended please list both to
ensure they are included on the PL2005 CD.
Slim Browser comes in a lite (fits on a diskette) version too. Should
that be listed?

There is no other conclusion possible than, that Aida32 is gone. In
this case Everest Home Edition is a doog successor. Do we have to
nominate this one, or can the name be changed? IMHO most functions of
Aida32 are also present in Everest HE.

"Da rules" this year say all programs have to be nominated and seconded
(last year most PL2003 programs received at least two seconds and the
change makes the rules simpler). Aida32 is still available in a LFW
version. IMO we need to show the two programs separately on the list of
programs that *may* be nominated.
IMO there is one PL program that should be changed now: Hosts File
http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2004/PL2004INTERNET.php#0351-PW
ISTM we should be showing this URL - the one we list isn't being updated:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
I'd better do a separate post about that.

There are *no* current nominations -> nominations start next month. The

(the slate of candidates).
If a program is *not* listed on the PL2005 Nominations page submit a

No - but *PL2004* programs are "prequalified" for nomination to PL2005
and they are listed on the Nominations page. I'm adding other programs
as they are submitted.

Maria Luisa C - 15/09/2004 20.32.53
Thank you Maria. :)
For the benefit of others -
The list of programs that *have* descriptions is here:
http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2005/2005PL-Nominations.php
All I need is the program name and URL - *if* you submit it now - if you
wait until nominations are open you will have to submit a complete
description.
Descriptions *usually* show two URLs - home page (10&11) and download
page (17&18).
> Special note: This requires Barts PE Builder also.
>
> http://www.nu2.nu/

Thanks REM. Perhaps this should be on the "Ware ballot" because of the
shareware utilities.
>Descriptions *usually* show two URLs - home page (10&11) and download
>page (17&18).
I got you now. The author requests that home page links be given.
There are several steps required to build the CD and just grabbing the
file from a direct link would inevitably lead to frustration for those
who have not read the tutorial, which is not included in the file.
>> Special note: This requires Barts PE Builder also.
>> pebuilder3032.zip 3,062k
>> Barts provides a critical part of the installation program. It

>Thanks REM. Perhaps this should be on the "Ware ballot" because of the
>shareware utilities.
For clarity:
Bart's PE Builder is the portion that actually extracts the Windows
boot files. The file is a self extracting file that creates a 'Plugin'
subdirectory, along with the working files. Once extracted, the
'Plugin' directory can be deleted, along with all the shareware
programs. Very easy!
The WUBCD file is also self extracting and replaces the deleted
"Plugin' directory with a slew of freeware tools. The last updated
image was from Sept. 12. New tools were added and AdAware and the AV
tool dat files were updated to this point.
Then, Bart's us used to create a bootable image with the freeware
tools from WUBCD.
From Bart's license:

I don't see a license for WUBCD, but the author states, "This is not a
product it is a PROJECT, a freeware tool.." in the forum.
The only connection to shareware is the utilities Bart's places by
default, that are easily removed and replaced.
> CATEGORY: System
> SUBCATEGORY: Boot Utility
I'm not so sure now that "Boot Utility" is the proper term.
"XP Rescue\Restore CD?"
It makes so many things possible I'm having a tough time defining it
briefly.
After scanning clean in AntiVir for a couple of months I caught a
bugger hiding in System Restore when booting from the CD and scanning.
It's not possible to scan in a normal boot and this is a prime hiding
place. I can now disable system restore, as the CD makes this
dangerous option moot.
Full access to NTFS volumns is provided. Spyware tools, file tools,
cmos tools, defrag tools that really defrag, linux partition browsers,
hard disk utilities, drive image and cloning tools, Win tweakers,
undelete partition, ... it's got so much that has been lacking I'm
still exploring all of the stuff on the created CD.
Anyway, this is the most outstanding project and combo of programs
I've seen. I submit it for discussion as to whether it fits in to the
realm of Pricelessware.
>
>"XP Rescue\Restore CD?"
Rescue-CD/Utility-CD
or if you use "disk" you can add floppies under the same category
heading.
Rescue-disk/Utility-disk.
(note, drop XP in name, this leaves room for Linux disks under the
same heading/category. Some of those can be useful for WIN users too,
like for partitioning, formatting, disk/partition imaging etc.)
All the best,

Something like this possibly?
I'm not sure if nesting that deeply is necessary. It might just be
added to the existing System Utilities page.
There might be issues with the shareware utilities Bart's PE contains
though. I hope not. This is truly priceless!
Perhaps: System Information; Rescue Disk
or System Diagnostics; Rescue Disk
See the apps listed here:
http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/P_SYSTEMUTILITIES.php#1.03SystemInformationTool
It seems to me this app should be in an adjacent category.

Neither IMO, since a resuce disk provides more than information or
diagnostics. The info/diag categories should be reserved for utilities
that offers info/diag as their *main* features.
I suggest Rescue disk slahs utility disk. Not all such disks are
rescue disks as such, but utilities disk that can be used for rescue
purposes - thus the suggested slash, Rescue/utility disk.
I also suggest not prefacing the category with "system" - even if it
is on the sysutil page. By not using "system" it will leave more room
to add a more varied selection of such disks to the category in the
future I think ... just a thought, haven't looked over all the other
categories and existing software candidates just now.
I'm trying to ensure that somewhat similar apps are in *adjacent*
categories - whatever they are named.
Here's a list of the apps on the acf prog. info pages that may be

Change name to "Boot/rescue disks"? Add the one suggested by REM to
this category, problem solved?

Question: No need to add a description if it is already available
via <http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/P_ProgramIndex.php>, right?
Thanks Bjorn. It's nice to have you back and available for consultation. :)
I will do the descriptions if you send the names and URLs *now* - this
special offer ends soon. . . :)
(FWIW The acf prog info descriptions are mostly from PL2004 nominations
- they will need updating.)
Check the nominations page for apps that have current descriptions:

No need to post any apps that are already on that list.

Home page: <http://users.erols.com/waynesof/bruce.htm>
Author: Bruce Guthrie <Wayn...@erols.com>
Version: Current release: 0208 (August 2002)
Ware status: "..free for use provided relevant documentation is kept
with the programs, no changes are made to the programs or
documentation, and they are not bundled with commercial programs or
charged for separately."
Description from homepage:
"Processes and removes embedded HTML commands from Web pages
downloaded from the Web. Reflows paragraphs, processes tables,
etc as straight ASCII text. Can function on individually-saved
pages or else process your entire disk cache. Ideal tool for
resending via e-mail or dozens of different uses. Awarded a
"Best" rating by "PC Computing" in their July 1996 issue."
add (adapted from homepage):
"Written and compiled in DOS, not Windows. Should work
fine under Windows but forget handling things like long file
names under Win95, Win98, WinME, Win2000, and WinNT."
(my comment, I use this CLI (command line interface:) app, quite often
under Win2k. Very configurable!! via both ini-file and command line
switches. Handles tables very well. It does not handle LFNs - so
output files from LFN files will give short names only, but I can live
with that given the nice plain text output.)

currently I am only visiting when time allows it and/or I need a break

I'm sorry to say I can only take a lap or half a lap if and when time
allows it. I will otherwise be standing next to you - cheering from
the side, offering water for dehydrated. Luckily there are many that
offers input here, if not water, so hopefully Susan will not be doing
all the laps on her own (although she is of course doing all or most
the manual labour anyway). The dedication, stamina, creativity and
effort inputted by people like her is part of what makes this group a
nice "place" to "hang out in" me thinks. :)

Looks good to me. Now that the WUBCD is open for nomination,
then why not also Bart's PE Builder
<http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/P_SYSTEMUTILITIES.php#1167>,
which should fit nicely alongside "Autostreamer" in the subcategory
"Boot Disk Creator"

cases). For help type: XMSDSK /?

HTMSTRIP
(Freeware)
Windows OS: DOS
Languages: English
Description: HTMSTRIP: Processes and removes embedded HTML commands from
Web pages downloaded from the Web. Reflows paragraphs, processes tables,
etc as straight ASCII text. Can function on individually-saved pages or
else process your entire disk cache. Ideal tool for resending via e-mail
or dozens of different uses. Written and compiled in DOS, not Windows.
They should work fine under Windows but forget handling things like long
file names under Win95, Win98, WinME, Win2000, and WinNT. COMMENTS: I
use this CLI (command line interface:) app, quite often under Win2k.
Very configurable!! via both ini-file and command line switches. Handles
tables very well. It does not handle LFNs - so output files from LFN
files will give short names only, but I can live with that given the
nice plain text output.)

Maybe add something about multiple pluigns to various utilities one
can include on the cd (out of which some are freeware, others not). I
have not built this one my self (no XP/2003 CD) -, so it would be nice
if anyone who has first hand experience with it could add a word :)

MakePDF
(Freeware)
Windows OS: Windows Requires Ghostcript and a Postscript printer driver
Languages: English
Description: Portable Document Files (PDF) can be read on any platform
with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you configure a Windows
Postscript printer driver to create a Postscript file, you can print
anything to the file and then use AFPL Ghostscript to convert the
Postscript file to PDF. The only problem with this is that is
Ghostscript uses a command line interface and lots of complicated
parameters so it is not at all easy to use. So I created a simple but
powerful Front End......

Thank you again for all your work!
PS: if 4DOS does not get nominated and voted PL, well then I don't
know what to think - other than there can't be any DOS/WIN9x users
left in this group :)

In the morning please. :)
(I'm done for today.)
Strongly agree! Our twitching opposable thumbs... it's good to feel part
of a project, part of something being built.

Coffee, bien sur, essential! Shall you always have a freshly brewed supply,
perpetually fresh and hot.

Thanks! :) Very happy to swing back in. :)
I much appreciate your plugging away so energetically without lapse... And
the PL process this year looks to be taking fine shape.

I'll follow up with Regmagik comment over there, expect I'll do the reply-to
on message <pvbok0pcfftvia735...@4ax.com>.

I've read about 4DOS over the years, with whimsical desire and longing.
Now that it has at last emerged into freeware, I have no excuse not to
spend some time... Er, well, at least to put it in onto by todo list,
in brightly colored font. As to vote: for the principle alone about
this highly-reputed suite becoming freeware, I am going to vote for it.
My vote is decided even in advance of being a user, and straight alone
from the concept. Oops - now that I've written that, I realize that to
keep by vote from being considered illegit, I better download soon, to
at least run a command or two...

The link at
<http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/P_SYSTEMUTILITIES.php#1227>
which points to
<ftp://planetbrown.einados.com/pub/ADMIN/ramdrive.exe>
seems to work now. Just tried it again. Still hope some of
of the LFW-keepers here will grab a copy for their site :)

>>07 DESCRIPTION AND NOTES: [From homepage]
>> "Bart's PE Builder helps you build a "BartPE" (Bart Preinstalled
>> Environment) bootable Windows CD-Rom or DVD from the original
>> Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 installation/setup CD, very
>> suitable for PC maintenance tasks."

>if anyone who has first hand experience with it could add a word :)
Each plugin that comes with Bart's PE can be installed on the CD, or
not.
Using the "manual build" a list of plugins is displayed and each
plugin can be enabled or disabled. Only those plugins that are enabled
are installed.
Using one WUBCD method, the entire plugin directory is replaced by
another plugin directory of exclusive freeware apps.
There are other plugins created by various people for various
utilities. I haven't used these, but many are for commercial programs,
like Norton Ghost, that are very useful if the user already owns the
commercial program.
This gives the project the ability to accommodate most everyone,
freeware only, free and shareware, freeware, shareware and commercial
apps, etc.
This fellow has build a "plugin builder" that works with Bart's PE. It
makes it possible to build your own plugins, in the event that one
does not exist and you really want it:
http://pluginbuilder.selsoft.de/
I've ran it a couple of times and it locked up. I probably haven't
read enough about it yet.
This is a great project by many people on many fronts!

James, or someone else might help with a better description. Let me
take a shot at it though:
"Description: The WinUBCD is a collection of freeware Windows
utilities used with Bart's PE Builder to create a bootable CD for Win
XP\2000 for disaster recovery. This alleviates the "files locked"
problem when booting from hard drive and allows FAT32\NTFS data
recovery, hardware diagnostics, total partition AV scanning and the
ability to create or restore hard drive images at will."
I think I need another cup of coffee or two :)
That doesn't cover everything and is concise, perhaps too much to make
full sense? Still thinking about it. Let's see if anyone else wants to
take a shot at it.

Hmmm,

We might include Win 2000 above? I dunno about 2000 myself though.
Everything else looks good to me.

Thank you Maria. I am grateful to you and everybody else that posts
program updates here. Doubly grateful when you note it's a PL program
(saves my having to look at the list). :)
