There is now an alternative to KeyView (http://tinyurl.com/2wb6an) for
at least observing and even editing older Lotus 123 files:

http://www.triusinc.com/latest.htm

AS-EASY-AS v1.6ac for Windows is a powerful older spreadsheet that has
become freeware.

Thanks for this ...I have some very old 1-2-3 spreadsheets going back
to 1982 under Lotus 123 v2. I'm off to investigate.

Looking at the website, it appears that ASA can read .WKS and .WK1
spreadsheet files (created by the old DOS versions of Lotus) but not
.123 files (created by Lotus for Windows) which is what I now have
but not installed because my copy is on 3.5" diskettes and my current
PC doesn't have a floppy drive.
I was hoping ASA could load my collection of .123 files. Alas not.

Keyview will view them maybe, it has .123 listed in the drop down box
for file types.

Do you have a website link for Keyview? The earlier link you posted
was only to d/l the KV installer but I'd like to read about it first.

If KV can open .123 files that would be great because I can then
convert them to .WK1 files and install ASA and get started...

Well it's an IBM program that was made by Verity, Inc (now Autonomy).
Autonomy has a more recent app called KeyView (-
http://www.autonomy.com/content/Products/KeyView/index.en.html) that
is really just an SDK which you can incorporate in other apps. It
allows viewing of 300 file formats. I think it's very expensive.

Anyway, it's hard to find a definitive page describing KeyView on
IBM's Support site (http://www.ibm.com/support/us/), although there
are a few if you use the keywords "keyview" and "smartsuite". The ftp
site which still hosts the app is here:

ftp://ftp.lotus.com/pub/lotusweb/product/smartsuite/

There are many other files in the directory and subdirectories off of
it so you might find a file there that describes Keyview.

I did find the readme for Keyview in this folder C:\Program Files
\Verity\KVLotus. I put it in the Google Group here:

http://groups.google.com/group/datarecoveryfreeware/web/keyview+readme.pdf.

The text (not as pretty) is below.

Here is what the readme says:

"KeyView for Lotus to:
