Got a recommendation for something close (so I don't have to
retrain all my users)?
Pricelesswarehome.org is useless unless you want to browse for
hours.

There's an article on 'Best PIM' that has a lengthy comments section
which contains several posts about Sidekick, one of which says that a
forum for sidekickers sez that Sidekick 98 will install and run on Win7.

Updated February 2011 - see
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-pim.htm#comment-66928 and
http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1634600&page=1 I have
recently been made aware by several Sidekickers that Sidekick98 installs
and works fine on Window 7 64Bit. - There had been a few people
reporting problems, but it appears that if the installation is performed
correctly there are NO issues.

A: Because it disturbs the logical flow of the message.
Q: Why is top posting frowned upon?
R: Perche' disturba il flusso logico della lettura
D: Perche' "postare sopra" e' tanto fastidioso?
Likewise EfficientPIM (www.efficientpim.com). The free version may work
well for you.
Not sure if this will help, but in the "Comments" section of this link:
http://www.waleedhanafi.com/2005/03/when-old-software-is-best-sidekick-98.html
...there is some discussion about Sidekick "98" (as opposed to other
Sidekick versions) being capable of running on Win 7 Pro.

An update:
Sidekick97 would not export, only backup in a proprietary format.
Google and several people here said Sidekick98 (found on abandonware
site) would work. Upgraded to SK98 on the original XP machine,
found it would export data as CSV .
I looked at all the recommendations posted, then found FreeAddressBook
http://addressbook.gassoftwares.com/
Imported the CSV data files.
It worked on XP.
Installed FreeAddressBook on Windows 7, copied the CSV files to a temp
folder, did the imports. All is good.

That works fine in practice, but it will
never work in theory.

Glad you found a solution, and thanks for posting the update. You shared
some good techniques and a link to FreeAddressBook:
http://addressbook.gassoftwares.com/
I wish more people would report back on the results like you did. It
really increases the knowledge base. Thanks again!
