I have been using Bluefish daily for a while to manage my website. I can
only find one issue with it that does not nearly outweigh the benefits
of the program over all other text editors I've used though it is
significant. That issue is it crashes rather often...not obnoxiously but
it does crash on my Vista system. I haven't used it yet on my Win7
system so I'm not sure how stable it is there. I've sent bug reports and
hopefully that will be corrected soon. It is by far the best of the lot.

One of the features of the many I like over the others is it creates a
backup every time you change a file. So if something goes wrong, you can
revert back easily. It creates a backup "SAMENAME.html~".

BB, an editor that crashes often can still be rated as
"by far the best of the lot". May I ask, if it crashes
so often, can you really get any job done?

It doesn't crash so often the nuisance overcomes it's benefits. It's
that much better than Notepad++ which doesn't crash at all.

I'm waiting to see if I get a reply from the developers as to what they
know about this and what they plan to do. I have high hopes...but those
have been dashed before.

It doesn't crash so often the nuisance overcomes it's benefits. It's
that much better than Notepad++ which doesn't crash at all but doesn't
contain the features I like so much in Bluefish.

I submitted a bug report and hope their intention is to improve
stability with v2.2.2. Here's high hopes. I haven't heard back from them
as yet, if I do.

Here is their reply:

"Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
Without a stack trace from the crash it's very hard to determine what caused
it.
However I am not sure who you could provide a stack trace under Windows.
:-/"

This is beyond my experience...anyone have a clue what to do? I don't
see any log of the crash.

I replied to them:

"I don't quite know how to reply. Virtually every session crashes at
least once when I use the program. Other than that, it blows away
Notepad++ et al and would quickly take the front runner position in this
category...though it will not have a chance with the frequent crashes."

You start a session, it crashes your machine, you start a /second/
session...so exactly how does it crash each session more than once?

I would gladly explain how the above is nothing more than repetitive
imbecilic blithering except it is impossible to explain repetitive
imbecilic blitherings to an imbecilic repetitive blitherer.

Here's a pretty straightforward walkthrough of how to create an
application 'crash dump' for various flavors of Windows, published by
the fine people at Acronis. It's pretty generic and can be applied to
other application dumps.

Just go straight to the "Solution" section and pick your version of Windows.

Easy enough:
let it crash and keep the error message visiable
run task manager
right click the process
create dump file
copy path and collect the .dmp file

Open Start-Run, type
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive

After that you will see a folder (or a few folders), the name of which
starts with Report

Collect the Report.wer file from the last created folder.
Send both files: Report.wer and .dmp file.

I submitted crash reports to them and they recommended I uninstall and
install verson 2.0.3 instead of 2.2.1.

We'll see how that goes.

Well drats. That version doesn't have the new features I liked so much
in 2.2.1. Still nice though and even this version rivals Notepad++.
Here's hoping 2.2.2 will be more stable.

I've been given a download link to 2.2.1 which I installed and no
crashes yet. I'll report if I have another crash. Things are looking up.
