ClipName supports a Copy command for filenames without including any
path, URL Encoding for multiple selections and <WORD> style encoding for
Microsoft Word, Microsoft OneNote,... A version running under Windows
Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 is available.
This new version adds the capability of copying the target URL for
Internet Shortcuts in Windows Explorer and from within the IE Favorites
bar.

ClipName is a lightweight extension to Explorer. FreeCommander is a
multi-purpose software with a bigger footprint.

Hi Patrick,
It's always nice to hear from an author. Thanks for posting about the
ClipName update.

Seems like ClipName could be a good substitute for my
long time favorite "Ninotech Path Copy"
<http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2008/PL2008Category03.php#08>
Ninotech's util seems a tad more flexible than ClipName I think,
since it allows you to create your own copy methods in addition to
those offered by default. But there is no 64-bit version, and it does
not seem to be under development either... At least the old homepage
is gone <http://home.worldonline.dk/ninotech/freeutil.htm>.
Copy of the old site can still be found via the wayback machine
<http://web.archive.org/web/20080704135144/http://home.worldonline.dk/ninotech/freeutil.htm>
and the program can be downloaded via
<http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Ninotech-Path-Copy.shtml>
which offers this d/l link

The footprint of ClipName IS smaller than that of Filecommander, no
doubt. And who said you have to use the Explorer Filemanager to use
it? Remember, Explorer is also the windows shell, unless you replace
it with another shell. (haven't tried that since Windows 3.11 or Win95
my self). Thus context-menu-addons for Explorer will usually work in
any other Windows filemanager you install, including FreeCommander
(just tried it to make sure, works fine.) You not needing ClipName
because you have a similar feature already in place in FreeCommander
is another issue.

Don't forget to swallow when Ron pumps your mouth full!
Yrrah
You're welcome. I certainly didn't want to trigger such a wild debate
:-) .
Your choice. Other thinks that it's preferable to only add the features
that you need to a basic environment.
> Explorer ought to have this feature. The fact that it doesn't have it

And if Microsoft had added all features possibly wanted by any Windows
user, I'm sure a lot of people - including you ? - would have complained
about Microsoft's monopolistic attitude not giving other
vendors/developers the opportunity to sell/give away their own products.
Correct?
Others think...
Sorry.
So speaketh the King of Usenet postings who never wrote a line of code
in his life.

Then leave and take your POS software with you.
Yrrah
Alas, there aren't many REAL debates (tame or wild) in ACF these days
(most "debates" are sock puppets telling lies to each other and trading
insults). The above reply that PURPORTS to come from Yrrah is a forgery
- there's a lot of that too (much of it sent via x-privat.org).
Hi Pat;
The "debate" is not what it seems. Unfortunately, there are a couple of
malevolent forgers in this newsgroup. They try to start arguments,
create bad blood among posters and, generally, stink up the place.
So, for example, one forger has been posting under a couple of names in
this thread by using x-privat's nntp servers:
> Message-ID: <4ad0...@news.x-privat.org>
> Organization: X-Privat.Org NNTP Server - http://www.x-privat.org
> Lines: 12
> X-Authenticated-User: $$j0xv9612suhxkoyemw
> X-Complaints-To: ab...@x-privat.org
Pretty much anything posted from x-privat is very suspect. Forgers also
use a "remailer" from dizum. Since there is no moderation here, the
forgers have chosen our little group in which to defecate with abandon.
