I'm interested in finding a source of used photo-optic probes for
nonmedical use. My budget being somewhat limited, it came to mind that
medical centers, research centers, and orthopaedic drs, in their periodic
upgrading of orthoscopic camera equipment, may either sell or donate their
older equipment rather than simply trashing it. (i've posted to the
orthopaedic
newsgroup). There however maybe other sources...Swat Team discontinued
servalance cameras?
I've looked into using those new micro spy cameras that are now
advertised,
but there are two problems;
1) The lense or (micro) camera needs to be attached to a prehensil type
flexible rod/cable, for directing around corners.
2) The lens or (micro) camera needs to have a short focal length, (for
up
close imaging).
I know of no other camera/lens devices that fit these requirements. My
Google
and DogPile searches returned nothing comparable to an Orthoscope camera.
There was no data for any of those camera-photoprobe devices I've seen on
movies where the Swat Team runs the camera probe under a door to see what's
going on in a room... but unless the focal length is adjustable I wouldn't
be able
to see anything up close anyway!
Does anyone here know of any such recipient for antiquated equipment, or
possibly another alternative (be nice). My interest is personal, not
professional,
I have several (musical) instrument to repair, and hobby projects that this
would greatly simplify, as well as several of my coworkers have expressed an
interest in have an affordable photoscope/probe for their interests (Racecar
engines etc). Any help would be appreciated. And perhaps others would be
interested also.
Respectfully, E.Lee Harrison Jr.

Try searching for used fiber optic or flexible borescopes. Or even
endoscopes. Some come as small as 4 mm and some have tip steering
capability.
