Hello,

I just started the process of D/L'g large multi part RAR file from
USENET. Unfortunately the one group that I am getting these files
don't offer much help. And I couldn't find any reference to APR file
in the WinRar Help file or on there web site.

One file consisted of 45 RAR files and 6 PAR file. They are each just
under 10MB in size. RAR #40 is bad. How do I go about using the PAR
file to repair the one bad RAR file. The original posted has not been
around to request the RAR file be reposted.

Az'

Par isn't related to Rar at all, so Winrar won't have any docs...

a "Par" file is a parity file, created by a program like smartpar.exe
or fsraid.exe

Do a search for smartpar.exe and throw it in your windows directory (or
anywhere for that matter) Run it once and then exit (this will
associate .Par files with smartpar.exe)

Now, go to one of the .par files for the corrupted download (doesnt
matter which one) and double click on it, it will open in Smartpar.

Smartpar will scan the archive, detect missing or corrupted segments
and regenerate missing/corrupted segments from the extra information in
the .par files.

When thats done, exit smartpar, and unrar the archive normally.

I have used the command line RAR and never have seen a PAR file.
This may be something new WinRAR added or something someone
made up on their own?

Type RAR -? at the command line and you will see that the command
line version of RAR can fix it's own archives without requiring any
PAR fle.
