For any of you thinking of upgrading or getting a computer with Vista,
Don't. You will have trouble installing applications and developing
applications.

I'm using a Vista Ultimate computer for 5 months now (A Toshiba QOSMIO) and
I'm really very happy with it. It works like a charm with Delphi (I use
Delphi 7 and 2007). For older programs, not Vista compliant, just turn off
UAC and you get rid of the confirmation box you have all the time. You may
also want to grant write permission to directories where applications
shouldn't write.

The rules enforced in Vista are not new. Microsoft already published them at
Windows 2000 time. The only diffrence now is that Vista enforce the rules by
default while previous OS didn't prevent anything. Using Vista, you can
always configure the system so that it behave as previous versions.
