I am hoping to get information on shareware text-based games for
DOS for a friend of mine who is totally blind. If possible, please
post your message to this newsgroup. Also, please include any
available FTP directions to get a copy of the games and brief
explanations of the nature of the games themselves.

There is a whole directory of text-based games at:
ftp.gmd.de
The directory begins with /if-archive
There are games, source code, programming tools (such as the Text
Adventure Developmeant System (TADS), and the Adventure Game Toolkit
(AGT)), hints and solutions for a bunch of the old Infocom games,
archives from rec.arts.int-fiction and rec.games.int-fiction, and some
other stuff.

(By the by, you can buy "The Lost Treasures Of Infocom" (Volumes 1 and 2)
at software stores for something like $50.

Here's the Index file from /int-fiction/games/pc, and
/int-fiction/games/pc/eamon:
(Bear in mind that there are also TADS directories, source directories,
C64, Emacs, Mac, and other stuff as well, but here's the stuff listed for

Well, the primary FTP site for text games is
ftp.gmd.de
The directory is if-archive
I believe there is a games directory off of that, with different
subdirectories for the different machines. THe Index files have
descriptions of the games I believe.
