Hello.

I am looking for a way to obtain a custom ps/2 or usb compatible
braille keyboard.

Does anyone know any products in this range or company
specializing in custom building of such devices.

I'd like to have a keyboard layout like this:

+-------------------------+
o o
o o o o o o o o
o o
=== ===== o o o o
+-------------------------+

Now as I read this it sounds to me as if this would get
very expensive or impossible.

Hmm, but I really would like to have a custom keyboard design.
It is targeted at using Emacs with a Braille input method.

Chord (space) can be used as control.
Meta (alt) is the key to the left of chord.
Hmm, cursor keys normally wouldnt be necessary (C-f and C-b...),
but this would make it nicer to use.

Ah, did I mention that it would be nice if the whole
thing were of the size of a iPAQ?

Adding features does not necessarily increase functionality -- it just
makes the manuals thicker.

this is something I looked in to a while ago and while I can't remember
exact products or companies I do recall that what was onoffer was massively
expensive.
the easyest was is to with a software application that turns the fds jkl
keys in to the 6 braille keys and disables most of the other keys.
thre's a utility like this built in to the duxberry braille translation
software which I think lets it be used in other applications such as word
processors, and from what I remember there were one or 2 dos applications
that did this though not terribly well in windows.
I think if you're looking for a serious way to input braille in to your pc
you're on a hyding to nothing.

I think braille lite can connect to pc, and one could the use the
braille lite's keys, to type to the pc. but of course this is a
costly way of doing it. But, if you prefer typeing in braille,
maybe you also prefer toread in braille.
