This (GUI oriented) utility is called "Macrium Reflect". I do not
know how new it is in reality, but it is new to me. It does not
require partition management. Apparently it is made specifically
for making backup copies of partitions. It makes a copy of the
partition/disk to a file instead of making another partition. I
have tried similar before, with no luck, but do not know whether
they used the same underlying process. I have two hard drives, one
very small SSD drive as the main drive, and one regular hard drive
for data and copies of windows. Given that setup, I might not need
to manage partitions. The secondary drive will be used for data as
usual, and file copies of the very small first drive can be placed
in a folder on that secondary drive.

But, preliminarily, the best thing about that utility might be its
ability to better handle copies of Windows. My first run went
surprisingly smoothly, it handled my SSD drive with no problem. It
even makes copies of the Windows partition/disk without having to
exit Windows, that was pleasantly weird. It includes an option to
restore the boot sector to what it was when the copy was made. It
allows making a boot disk (but that might be GUI only too).

I do not know how genuinely new or innovative it is, but it seems
to be the Windows partition backup utility I have been needing for
a very long time.

I will probably be utilizing this utility regularly, and will post
about any problems. If anyone here knows about it, or tries it,
and says it is totally useless to them, then I will avoid
mentioning it again. There is probably no reason that same process
cannot be used from a command line. I think it uses some possibly
new Windows command called "shadow copy".

. As with all backup utilities, the proof of the pudding is in the
restore. Have you tried restoring (your Windows system), starting from
only one of the backups it has made, yet?
