When you uninstall programs or remove portable programs from your
computer, you past notification icons in Win 7 retain these old entries.
If you would like to clean these up use the following procedure. There
is a free portable program called "TrayIcons" out there, but it doesn't
work well in Win 7.

To clean up the past notification area icons in your system tray perform
a registry search for the "TrayNotify" folder that contains the
"IconStreams" and "PasteIconsStream" entries and delete both. Now hit
Ctrl +Alt + Del to open Task Manager and kill "explorer.exe" process
(your entire taskbar will dissappear). In Task Manager click "File >
New Task (Run...) " and enter "explorer.exe" and click OK to start
explorer.exe again. You Task bar will re-appear and all past icons have
now been removed.

To get around UAC in Vista and Win7 when you start your portable
programs, put your portable programs in the "C:/Program Files" folder.
