I use Zone Alarm including it's virus program and Ad-aware plus the Google
pop-up blocker and I'm still getting a really annoying pop-up from a site
whose URL is www.superslots.com. Any ideas how to get rid of this pop-up or
where it's coming from? I use IE 6.

Thanks,
Craig

Use Firefox. I didn't see any pop-up with it. And the security is
better. Use IE only if you want to live dangerously.

For non-viral malware...

Please download, install and update the following software...

Ad-aware SE v1.06
http://www.lavasoft.de/
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

SpyBot Search and Destroy v1.4
http://security.kolla.de/

After the software is updated, I suggest scanning the system in Safe Mode.

I also suggest downloading, installing and updating BHODemon for any Browser Helper Objects
that may be on the PC.

BHODemon
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm

For viral malware...

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

It is a self-extracting ZIP file that contains the Kixtart Script Interpreter {
http://kixtart.org Kixtart is CareWare } three batch files, five Kixtart scripts, one Link
(.LNK) file, a PDF instruction file and two utilities; UNZIP.EXE and WGET.EXE. It will
simplify the process of using; Sophos, Trend and McAfee Anti Virus Command Line Scanners to
remove viruses, Trojans and various other malware.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode. This
way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor’s web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Exit the menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file.

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

* * * Please report back your results * * *

If you can't be persuaded to use a alternate and far better and safer
browser, you can use something like Proxomitron to block ads and other
annoyances:

IE is for those that *know* how to secure their systems, don't get me wrong
I do like Firefox's tabbed browser for ease of use; but I hear tell that the
next incarnation of IE will also have the tabbed browser. Shoot I also
wrote a tabbed browser using the IE engine and had I know it would be so
popular I would have put it out on the web for a nominal fee of say a dollar
and made a fortune, lol. In any even IE is just a secure as any other
browser if you know what you are doing and Firefox is sort of like AOL, iow,
if you don't know how to protect your system let someone that does know how
do it for you.

It does have a tabbed browser, well the BETA 7 does. I think the next
rendition of IE looks terrible and for me Opera is and always has been
the best and most secure, functional browser out there for Win32
without exception.

Why? How? Opera and Firefox are free - why would anyone pay even this
nominal fee for what they can get for free. I haven't seen this
program so I dare not say the likes of even Opera is superior even
though I have a hunch :)

My point exactly, why let the browser be responsible for your security? I
can take the most hole riddled browser and still be secure; but then maybe
that is just me; but I rather like being able to be responsible for my own
security, and to date I have never repeat never been unknowingly infected
with any virus/malware/bug/ hole or what have you. The only time I have
ever been infected with such is on my pig machine while testing the efficacy
of my security procedures.

Dude..... you're borderline retarded trailer trash. You can barely manage
to string together enough one syllable words to form a readable sentence.
You probably couldn't write your NAME six times in a row without spelling
errors, and you honestly expect anyone to believe you wrote a web browser?

Really now! So regale us with your superior knowledge and explain in
detail how you're locking IE down against its continuing site
traversal vulnerabilities? We'd really appreciate all the sage advice I'm
sure a top notch coder like you can offer us mere mortals.

Sooge's enormous creative talent and ingenuity extends far beyond
that. Rumor has it that Sooge is actually the original inventor of the
Write Only Memory (WOM). This remarkable device is said to be able to
store data in such a way that it is impossible to read it by any known
means. When asked about it, it's said that Sooge just smiles sagely
while pointing out that he invented the first perfect data security
device known to mankind.

His detractors claim that he stole the idea from a April 1 article in
a old IEEE journal that he found in a dumpster. Personally, I think
that's cruel and unjustified.

Ahem.
That version had a bug. The newer versions probably have it
fixed.

You can still fix old versions of Firefox by creating
user.js in your profile directory and putting this line
in it:

user_pref("browser.cache.memory.capacity", 500);

That should surely read - IE should ONLY be used by those who know how to
secure their systems.

Many alternate browsers use tabs, it's no wonder that IE is following
where others have already lead.

Apart from the inherent security vulnerabilities which need a code
re-write, if you can do this yourself then you are one up on most of us.
The rest have to wait for updates from Microsoft, which unlike the
Mozilla camp, they are very slow to do. The following was taken from a
recent post to a Mozilla forum which highlights my point.

"the press thinks Firefox is unsafe

get the facts (source Secunia), Firefox vulnerabilities since 20041109:

grand total: 61 Vulnerabilities
fixed: 56 = 91.8 %
workaround: 2 = 3.3 % ,moderately critical
unfixed: 3 = 4.9 % ,less critical

get the facts (source Secunia), IE vulnerabilities since 20041109:

grand total: 31 Vulnerabilities
fixed: 16 = 51.6 %
workaround: 1 = 3.2 % , moderately critical
workaround: 3 = 9.7 % , not critical
unfixed: 5 = 16.1 % ,moderately critical
unfixed: 2 = 6.5 % ,less critical
unfixed: 4 = 12.9 % ,not critical

Yes, IE has fewer vulnerabilities reported, and of those fewer, they patched a lot less.
If we look at the grand total for IE6 the picture isn't much better.

Is FF safer than IE ? Draw your own conclusion ...."

Thanks for the welcome :) Yes, I keep quiet on usenet now. I have
seen so many of my usenet posts printed and ending up on a judge
or police desk. Not fun anymore to say what you think about a

>What happened with the court case you had to deal with ?

I was condamned. On the penal side, I had a 5000 euros suspended
sentence (so I don't have to pay anything unless I have other
troubles with french law, which is unlikely as I don't even live
there). On the civil side, I was condamned to pay a total of
14.300 euros to the (now bankrupted) company and the programmer of
the anti-virus. They had asked for 900.000 euros, so I guess it's
kind of light. I appealed all of these sentences anyway.

So the new trial is on november 29th in Paris. That will be my 4th
trip from Boston to Paris for this stuff. Almost three years of
trouble for a few flaws in an anti-virus, that was probably not
worth it. So now I focus on my job instead of posting on usenet :)

(Blaster, Sasser, and now the PnP attack) out. I first used ME and XP
side by side, but my XP machine is so stable (and safe, as I learnt a
lot about safer hex, and a good deal from this group), I nearly ditched
the older ME. By now it is only running for some networked gaming.

The only problem is, I don't know whether you can stioll obtain a wire-
only broadband router, as I did. The are all with WLAn inclusive, which
i hate, because it allows drive-by-surfing, if you don't activate the
WEP/WPA encryption. And one of them is rather weak, I think it is the
WEP.

It was and still is just the basic IE engine with a tabbed interface, and
whether or not you choose to believe it, doesn't mater a hill of beans to
me. I know it is true, as do those whom I showed it to. You go right ahead
a believing what you like cause you will any ways.

WEP is insecure even with 128 bit encryption:

http://www.tomsnetworking.com/Sections-article118.php

XP users have the far more secure WPA available (apparently):

Hmmm, maybe I should post it online just to rub your collective noses in it;
but then you still would not admit you were wrong, even with your knowing
that IE has never came with a tabbed interface, hmm maybe I will put it up

It is NOT finished; but it is my tabbed browser, this version of which
is made into a way to search at various search engines all at the same time,
you put what you are looking for into the box up next to the buttons then
click the button next to it and wa la, TABS open up with what you are
looking for each in it's OWN TAB.
I had told myself that I wasn't going to prove anything to you ass
holes; because you don't deserve my time; but just so as the newer people
will know that you and Lara, and heather, and the puff twit and the rest are
full of hot air, here is my tabbed browser, well a version of it at least
that I never finished. I have bunches of projects all in varying degrees of
incompleteness, simply because I get board with them and switch to something
new.
btw, at least I don't try and trick people into using AV software that is
suppose to be *free* for home use, knowing all the while that if people get
use to using it at home they will most likely try and talk their companies
into *buying* the version for commercial use and that the companies will buy
it because they don't have to teach their employees how to use it because
they already use it at home. ALL my software is FREE supported by donation
and if they don't want to give any money for it then fine, they can use it
any way.

oh and before you try and say I stole this from Microsoft, the browser
engine comes with Visual Basic and is FREE to use in any way shape or form
the programmer wants to, I simply added a way to add tabs into the
interface, which btw, M$ is also going to do in their next version of IE,
hmmm, wonder if they got the idea from me, after all I had the idea and a
*working* POC several years ago, but of course you won't believe that either
seeing as how you won't believe I wrote a tabbed browser ever after you
download and install and use it you still won't believe it, will you, but
guess what?

I *don't care*; because I know what I know, what I know and you all can bite
me; but on second thought don't bite me because you are stupid ignorant
people and if you bite me it may be contagious.

version has tabbed browsing.

1 Corinthians 6:3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more

There are those of which you seem to be one, that never read their bible;
but only know what others have told them is in it. You most likely would be
very surprised at how much you have been told that is in error. I but you
even think that there were only 2 of every kind of animal taken into the
ark; because that is what you have been *told*, but you never checked it out
for your self. There are quite a few common misconceptions that have been
taught by tradition instead of people actually reading the Bible for their
self and seeing what the Bible *really* says.

Not at all, I have never said any such thing or even hinted at such. You
should learn to read for content; because I did NOT say I had anything to
do with it, I only said and I quote "Do you find it strange" now you can
read just about anything into that you want, and you most likely will just
as you always have.
Surely you can name them your self? how about the one in the wheelchair
that was willing to trade his "rolls Royce" wheel chair to put a hit on me?
or was that someone else in the thread and he only said about someone with a
high powered rifle sitting up on a hill by my house could take me out? and
then he died? how about the writer that liked to degrade me? did she not
die of what was it? a self inflected over dose of drugs and alcohol? or
some other form of suicide. Then there is of course Gutter man in this very
thread whom has had and *is* having trouble with the law. I am surely not
saying I have any powers, not even God given powers I only find it strange
that not long after several people made remarks about me or said that I
should die, that they them selves died.

> powers? Oooohhh, your God is going to be some ticked off with your

The bible says to "touch not my onited" and that coals of fire will be
heaped upon the head of those that harm my onited. I am also not saying I
am one of Gods anointed; I am only a true believer that studies my Bible
*every* day and guess what? I find out something just about ever day that
has been taught by tradition that just is *not* in the Bible the way they
say it is or was.

I see you still believe the lie posted by Laura, or have you not figured out
that , that resume was posted just to show someone how to do so, and has
long since been removed; because of it not being a *real* resume. as for my
being a mumbling old delusional hillbilly, firstly you have never listened
to me speak so you are for sure lying about that as anyone with a brain can
ascertain. as for old hillbilly, yep and *proud* of it, so what's your point
in saying that? as for delusional about the only thing I *may* be delusional

publishing code that you agreed not to by your downloading it? I hope they

anything they think.
Hmmm, well guess what, I haven't been sued over any of the code I am suppose

because I haven't stolen any code and you *have* broke the law concerning
the code you pilfered

I wasn't hauled into court over my coding was I? even though you and others

Despite the weak encryption, you can still turn off the wireless side

Depending on where you live, drive by surfing may not be a problem

It's not finished because you ripped off a VB tutorial example
and probably tried to tag on some stolen code, pinched from
'Planet Source Code' (again)

Hey people don't forget this is the guy that tried to steal
example code from finjan software then change all their
references to his to try and con us into believing he authored
it.[ check the archives of ACV if you want to read this episode ]

It was Guilleminto that reported to us that his "DinoStat" program
was an exact ripoff from code found at 'Planet Source code' all
he did was change the original authors name and identifiers to
his own retarded DimbulbSoft company.

It'll only be a matter of time before someone finds the original
code he's ripped off. Then we'll all be laughing at his expense
(again)

Nope and if you knew the Bible you would know better.
Psalms 105:15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

1 Chronicles 16:22 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no

Or are you also one of those that believe what you are *told* is in the

Actually I don't follow any sports; because it is barbaric and a waste of
time and money that could be spent on starving children. Do you realize
that if just 10% of what is spent on sports world wide were to be spend on
hungry children we could wipe out child hunger? But of course you would
rather spend your money to watch a team as watch a child get fed and not
starve. For just 5% of what is wasted on sports you could wipe out
homelessness. For 2% of what is wasted on sports world wide you could
immunize every child on earth that can't afford it. For a small percentage
of the money that is wasted on sports world wide you could wipe out cancer,
or AIDS or any number of diseases. You see I don't drink, I don't do drugs,
and I don't waste my money on watching a useless endeavor that the masses
find entertaining; because I spend my time learning things and trying to
make the world a better place, which the world would be considerable better
if all the money wasted on sports were used to better the population.

Yeah, I've plonked the retard, Figgs. What a graphic illustration of what
you older hands have been saying all this time!

You probably don't know about 'The Mary Whitehouse Experience' or 'Newman
and Baddiel'. Rob Newman and David Baddiel (who were half the MWE team) used
to have these characters - a couple of elderly professors - in a running
sketch called 'History Today'. I suppose the idea was something about
senility and reverting to childhood. Here's an example (though the
spellchecker seems to have balked at 'emeritus'). Remind you of anyone?

I was making a joke around your misspelling of "anointed". You posted

>The bible says to "touch not my onited"

which made me laugh since your spelling looks more like "united" than
"anointed".

The US businessman, Malcolm Glazer and his family (who already own the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers) have recently bought out Manchester United (over
in the UK) for a lot more than the stock exchange value and delisted
the company leaving the football club with a very large debt. This has
opened up a hornets nest with some of the supporters (not me though
because like all good Mancunians, I'm from the blue side).

If the bible were to say "touch not my United" then the Glazers could
be in deep shit. That was the joke. Not very funny, I know. But the
whoosh!! that took place when it all went over your head was
hilarious.

Since you were quick to point it out to someone else, you could start
with his "wa la" (s) lol

ROFL!! That was painful to see!! Not about to put "mater" in a Google
search, because he spells it wrong in EVERY post!! But he will probably
come up with some *dimbulb* explanation as to the *deep psychological
reasons* on why he misspells it. (snicker cuz I won't see it....LOL)

Cheers, Heather
And I didn't even use my spielchucker.

I had seen the same misapprehension in a previous post on XP General and
ignored it, though whether it was Plato then I don't recall. Plato's one of
the better regulars on XP General so I don't really want to rip into him (in
the modern or indeed the Ancient Grecian sense), but on the off-chance that
his name isn't really Plato, nor is he president of the Sal Mineo fan-club,
I felt I had to say *something*.

I can't get past thinking *Et voila, "wa la"* - ROFL, but not really what I
had in mind!

You could not take the piss out of a portable potty, you don't even know how
to post properly, and you are going to <can you hear me laughing, no? you
should because it most likely is rebounding off the lunar surface and going
through a near vacuum that is no ease feat) take the piss out of me?

sure you won't see it; but btw, have you ever actually asked your self *why*
I would spell matter as mater every time? Maybe if you can figure that out
then you would see what the whole mater is all about.
