Sony really didn't need Marvel Studios to fix Spider-Man.

Much to the surprise of just about everyone, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios announced last Monday that they had made a deal which would allow Spider-Man to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As great as that was, it was a little surprising that Sony had thrown in the towel and decided to reboot so soon; The Amazing Spider-Man 2 wasn't the commercial or critical hit they'd hoped for, but it was also a long way off from being a flop.

You would think that the studio might have given Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man at least one more chance anyway, especially as there's so much they could have done to improve the quality of the franchise in the third movie (which had been slated for release in 2016).

Here, you won't find solutions to what Sony did wrong in the first two instalments of The Amazing Spider-Man series. Those happened and there's nothing that can be done about them.

Instead, these are ten ways in which Sony could have saved the franchise following the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. What could they have done to salvage Spidey's big screen adventures before turning to Marvel for help? Quite a lot as it happens...
