Not to disagree with what's been said already, maybe this could be it.
Linus, (and the entire cast of Peanuts characters), is a child. GP could
be his imaginary friend, but more likely a thing illustrating the dreams
of a kid. anyone remember the movie 'cloak and dagger'?

Yeah, his friend turned out to be a projection of his dad or something (it
was played by his dad). heavy moment in the movie
