Remember in 1986 or around that time, Marvel was returning artwork to
its artists and requiring them to sign release papers. Even though Jack
did thousands of pages of artwork for Marvel, had little of it left in
their vaults but what they did have, they were willing to return
provided Jack sign papers that were lengthier than the others and
included words the other releases didn't have. Jack refused to sign
these papers.
Without going into the whole situation (I heard the wording was Jack
could not claim ownership of the characters, could not sue Marvel for
ownership of the characters and could not aid anyone else in suing
Marvel for any reason), did Jack ever get this artwork back from Marvel
or was it returned to his estate after his death?

ME: Marvel finally agreed that Jack could sign the same document that
all the other artists had -- which he'd been willing to sign in the
first place. And he received a little more than 2000 pages back.
